I picked up this machine a few weeks ago.

Does anyone have mods in their STTNG? Anyone using the laser mod for the cannons?

Where is the best place to see what mods are available?

Check on RGP, Rob, user name Robinva makes modded, lighted ships for it. I just bought all three. Expensive but very cool, i also have the laser mods, a must have. Oh and get the special sound ROM, it has out take clips from a bunch of the cast members like Picard saying "We will never surrender... unless you pay us enough"

I know Rob, he's a nice guy.

If you are into mods check with him or post on RGP. The only mod I did to my machine was I bought a Corgi Klingon Bird of Prey and installed it. I didn't LED it up but it looked much nicer than the stock ship.

Go to Pinball Life for the laser cannon mod.

Rob does not make these ships.

Before you buy ANY of the ship mods out there, you should know that what they're selling you for $80+ are simply hallmark christmas ornaments that you can buy on ebay for about $10. Everything from the klingon bird of prey, Starship Enterprise, Romulan Warbird, etc. They are all easily modified to light up in the game or sit dormant if you wish.

Also personally I think the laser cannons are lame. What is the point? It takes all the fun out of using the cannons. If you beat the battle simulation or hit the probe every time where is the satisfaction?

The only thing that modifies game play that I would actually consider are the extended outlane rails offered here (page 2): http://www.pinbits.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=13_36&zenid=lu8382dfjdbb566885mn0pc8n6

In an interview Steve Richie even said that these made the game play more as he had intended. I still haven't done it since I haven't yet been able to bring myself to make it non factory original but I have considered it.

I agree with you on all counts. Basically you are paying Rob to build it for you and for some people that's what they want.

I had the extended outlanes, well one of them (on the right), on my STTNG and it made the game much better. That game is a drain monster.

Get some 4 or 5 matrix LEDs and put them in the sockets under the Klingon ship. It actually does a decent job of brightening an otherwise dark playfield.

Interesting, I had not thought about only adding the extended outlanes to one side. I make a strong attempt to keep that kickback lit as much as possible on the left side. Anytime the ball hits the top of one of the sling shots you can pretty much say goodbye to it, and there is NO possibly of doing a bang back on TNG. I don't know why but you cant, not like TZ.
