STTNG cannon looms - fixable?, or just get new ones....

From what I've read, it sounds like wires break. Seems pretty easy to replace a wire, or even all the wires.

Are repro looms like the one at BayAreaAmusements made inherently stronger? I'm having issues with my left cannon unless I jiggle the wires. I haven't visually inspected the loom yet, but I'm at work and trying to decide whether or not just to order new ones.

In the long run, it does seem like a losing battle. If you bend a piece of wire enough times it seems like it's just going to break no matter what you do. I've heard of cat6 cable that's pretty bendable and tough, maybe there's an application for it here?

Eh, scratch that cat6 comment. Looks like the gauge of wire on the looms is a much beefier than cat6.

I'd recommend just replacing them. They are known to go bad. The way I look at stuff like this... They last for 18 years at this point. In a collector environment, the replacements should last even longer than that even if they aren't built to a higher standard.

indeed just replace..
buying new is the easiest, but if you can solder well then you can make them, they're not that complicated

cat-cable can only be used to wire up the microswitches, the coil needs much thicker wire

I seem to remember that when I re-did my STTNG cannon looms, the instructions had an alternate way of running the wires through the playfield which kept them from twisting as much.

Appreciate the input guys. I just ordered some replacement looms from pinbits. $16 each. Worth avoiding the hassle, I suppose.

Yeah, RH, I think I saw someone say you should run the left cannon counter clock wise and the right cannon clockwise.
