Stripping Vinyl Side art?

I had a similar experience. Tighe's Simpson pictures don't lie, it obviously worked well for him, but Acetone was useless for me. I recently peeled a punch of vinyl and was left with a layer of glue on the particle board. I tried acetone with a towel, lightly scrubing it around, pouring it on, letting it sit...everything I could think of...it didn nothing to the glue. I'm guessing different types of adhesive were used, and my cab had some kind that didn't react with Acetone.

I later found that my stupid mistake was using a heat gun that wasn't nearly hot enough. Once I got the right gun, I could heat the clue to a paste and easily scrap it away.

Very interesting! Yah for me the acetone was like magic! I wonder what kind of glue my simpsons had, and what yours had.

I just stripped two cabinets:

Star Wars... THE CAB FROM HELL! It laughed at a heat gun. It tried to KISS the heated decal remover I have. I used trusty Soy-Gel... 24 hours later... BLEAH! It did jack (well, it took about 10% of the art off). The stuff usually works great but not with Star Wars. I had to go to the nasty skull and crossbones stuff you get at Home Depot... it worked... in 3 coats on each side! It took about (get this) a total of 6 hours of hard work to get the front and both sides off. It was ridiculous...easily the worst/hardest cab I ever took art off.

Next came PAPERBOY. Ha! I removed the left side in 5 minutes with my HANDS ONLY (no kidding). The right side took a bit longer at about 40 minutes with a razor blade only....

I'm about to deal with a Lethal Enforcers cab, which has been spraypainted black.

Whatta you guys think? Heat gun? Chemicals? Or just sand it all off?

citristrip

unless you don't wanna save what's under the paint, then just sand it
