Would a heat-gun suffice or should I spring for some type of stripping agent, does anyone have some suggestions?

whats the sideart?

Ive stripped many O' cabs and have had mixed and different results
some vinyl/sideart will just peel right off. while others are more stubborn
requiring a heatgun, or citrus strip.

Maximum force Atari showcase cabinet. Its already peeling slightly but pulling on it removes some wood with the art.

Id start with a heat gun
and see if that works without pulling the wood.
if not
citrus strip works well to heat up the vinyl and should come off pretty easy
but turns it into a gooey rubbery mess.

Don't bother with citrus strip, acetone will evaporate and leave the surface free of any residue.

I've been dealing with the same thing for a few days here, i used rubbing alcohol and wiped it down really well with a damp towel. it worked pretty well but still requires a good amount of elbow grease.

All the original vinyl side art was already removed before i got it just some sticky residue left over. the heat gun is definitely the way to go.

I was looking for a more lazy mans way of removing it tho so last stop to the local home depot i picked up MostenBocker's Lift Off Tape Remover. it worked fairly well but still required some elbow grease like the alcohol and i can still see some residue so i'm going to hit it again (i wiped it down with wet towel just like the alcohol).

I have a big container of Denatured Alcohol (from a recent room i painted, and i wanted to try it out on cleaning pcb's) but i'm not quite ready to put it on my painted cab as it removes Latex Paint quite easily. if anyone can tell me it works well otherwise let me know.

The Paint on my Spiderman cab is 98% original (minus a couple touch up spots). Tighe it looked like that acetone took everything off down to the bare wood is that the case? also sent you a PM last night (donno if u got it).

I got it I will let you know about that super gun tomorrow.

Seriously, acetone is the way to go. Cheap and requires no elbow grease. I used that goo gone first, and that was a mistake. It took several coats of paint to cover the area I used the goo gone. The acetone evaporates and leaves the surface perfectly clean for painting.

cool just making sure, goo gone sucks, leaves such a greasy/oily surface, goof off worked well for me on other things (non arcade related). I'll look into the acetone.

Heat gun and putty knife FTW.

Nice job! You still have glue on the sides, if you want to paint it, then you would want to use acetone. I haven't ever put on replacement sideart so I don't know if the glue matters, but I read in another Simpsons repair thread, that the sideart maker suggested that you paint before applying sideart.

I'm going to paint it Capcom Blue. Thanks for the tips, I was just going to sand it but Ill hit it with acetone first.

So I tried Acetone and it didn't seem to work. Am I supposed to let it sit put a shitload on ect?

I set the cabinet on its side and poured it on, seemed to work great with the glue that Konami used:

The big blob is all the glue:

i tried acetone on a couple spots on my mk1 cab, i put it on a paper towel first (i was just testing it out anyways). it would take me forever to do both sides with acetone, the paint on the side of my cab is pretty thick for some reason.

I would pour it on also tho if i didn't care about the art under the paint, since your trying to remove the adhesive i wouldn't worry about it, but definitely give it a few days to a week to "air out".
