Stripping paint from a Williams Coin Door Logo Plate

I am in the process of stripping/restoring a Williams Tapper Coin door and was hoping someone could shed some light on the situation.

The coin door was repainted sometime in the past and it was done quick and dirty. The logo plate and everything else paint could get to was sprayed.

My question is; Is there a way to remove the black paint (Spray paint I belive) from the logo plate without removing the original logo paint/silk screen?

Also,

What is the best spray paint to use on the door to give it new life with the same type of finish?

I am not in a rush, but would like to do it the right way.

Plate

I just did this on a couple of Midway coin doors the other day. If you get the paint off the plate you will see it is a Midway. Anyways, I used Citristrip applied with a paint brush left it on for about 3 minutes and gently wiped the spray paint off. Dont wipe too hard because the printing on the plate will wipe off too. Or you can get the replace ment stickers from This old game. I would imagine he still has some left.

I just did mine, it was completely painted black. I dipped the corner of rag in paint remover and just rubbed until the black paint was gone. I think you have a lot more control this way than by applying the paint remover to the plate and waiting.

Rustoleum hammered finish is the closest to the original that I have found.

Thanks for the paint info. Cyberwhiz. I will be at the hardware store today to pick up the paint remover and hopefully the paint as well.

I actually ordered a replacement Logo plate from Thisoldgame this morning incase the paint removal goes bad $14.00. We will see how it goes, it looks like it's coming together nicely...
