It sucks because nearly all of the adhesive stays on the panel (of course). I don't want to use StripEze and have to repaint the panel, because the adhesive will roll off with your fingers, although it seems like it will take forever that way. Can I likely soften it with Goo Gone and not have to repaint the panel? So much of the game is in good original shape, I'd rather not repaint the panel and just put a new overlay on it if possible. The finish under the adhesive seems pristine.

update - Goo Gone works, but not real well. WD40 seems to be doing the trick. Hopefully, lots of Naptha will clean it up so the new overlay will stick..

I never repainted mine. Use whatever crap you can to get it off. I still don't know why people get so hung up on painting CPs before installing a CPO. It's metal! If it's clean, it'll stick. You paint it, you run the risk of the paint degassing, the paint/adhesive bond failing, or the paint/metal bond failing. It is a little tricky to install though because it's so big. When you go around the corner, I'd recommend using a hair dryer. I'm starting to get a little subsurface cracking going on, and I wonder if heating it up and "melting" reshaping it would've helped to reduce the stress of the installation.

Thanks, I'll keep those tips in mind. I got a lot of the goo off tonight, I think I'll get it down to original paint and it will be clean enough to install on top of. If I do anything, I might spray a mist coat right around the joystick hole and maybe hit the outer edges of the panel.

Use some auto degreaser. I had a customer strip some adhesive off his control panel easily with something like that.
