Stripped hardware from damaged cabs. Lots of it. What to do with it?
FINALLY DONE WITH ALL THE NASTY CABS!
Am working with a local operator who accidentally left a container of games in an area that allowed water to seep in over the course of 10-15 years. They are all pretty much toast. Some worse than others, but 90% of them will have to be scrapped (and some of them didn't even make it out of the container before crumbling. R.I.P. AD, Space Duel, and others..). He was very close to throwing them away, but he is also a sentimental guy, so we worked out a deal for me to try to save what is still salvageable. Am working quickly to get them out and dismantled (or passed along) before it warms up and he has to chuck them (i.e. before the mold reactivates and spreads to his good machines)
Most every bracket is rusty and would need to be treated/painted. All the small fasteners would need to be replaced, but most of the larger bolts should be OK if they are tumbled.
Made a facebook page to memorialize those that have been lost so far...

Tried to figure out the serial # and post a lot of pictures. Don't want people thinking that I am just ripping apart good games and harvesting organs. Been able to re-home a couple of cabs that were potentially salvageable (dedicated Konami Super Contra, Hyper Sports cab, Phoenix cab and a Karate Champ) to people who had time, space, and equipment to deal with the mold and wood rot.
HERE IS THE POINT OF THIS POST: (sorry it took so long to get here)
Have been in communication with DPTwiz on getting the metal/plastic parts to those who can make new cabinets. If he is unable to take on all or some of the "kits", is there anyone else who would like this stuff? I would like to keep it all together, and not piece out a bracket here and a bracket there, etc....
I can make a detailed list and or take pics, but by looking at those facebook photos, you should be able to get the idea. Most of the cabs were converted from one thing to another, but a couple were all original.
And lastly, I am not looking to gouge. Really just want the stuff out, but it takes a bit of time to strip & box & store everything. Am thinking about $30-$60 per batch of game parts (not including any PCB's) plus shipping.
(EDIT 04/14/15): I am done with the container of games. Here is the list:
ALL PARTS GONE - 1. Taito 10 yard fight: Able to save everything, Bezel glass is peeling at bottom and marquee was passed along to Buffett to complete his game (along with back door lockbar), rest of hardware passed along to local collector
ALL PARTS GONE - 2. Scramble converted to Mr. Do: Have all the metal work and AC wiring and the DC/control harness that has been modified to convert from Universal to Konami. and hacked control panel.
3. Berzerk converted to Silk Worm. Have all the Metal work and AC wiring, Jamma wiring and hacked control panel.
4. Mappy. Was able to save everything that wasn't made of wood (but did save the 2 custom hardwood pieces). Saved the serial # tag to put in new machine.
5. Hyper Sports converted to Altered Beast: Saved all of it (metal/plastic) and the hacked wiring & CP. Has "long" coin door. Saved the serial # tag to put in new machine.
6. Track & Field converted to Altered Beast: Saved all of it (metal/plastic) and the hacked wiring & CP. Has raised letter Centuri coin door (yes, that would be a bit extra). Saved the serial # tag to put in new machine.
ALL PARTS GONE - 7. Phoenix (Centuri) converted to Guerrilla War: Saved all of the parts & hacked control panel. Has hacked wiring harness to play Jamma games.
ALL PARTS GONE - 8. Turtles (Stern) converted to Golden Axe: Saved the parts, was converted to Jamma. Fairly empty cab.
ALL PARTS GONE - 9. Popeye (converted to Vs. Unisystem):
10. Centipede (Ireland mfg, converted to Cabal): Monitor is broken (literally). Converted to Jamma harness. Had dormant termites - yuk
ALL PARTS GONE - 11. Karate Champ (converted to Cabal). Monitor tube was broken, Chassis has some rusty componets. Salvaged a couple brackets, the control panel, coin door, and monitor frame along with the AC wiring and power brick.
ALL PARTS GONE - 12. Track and Field converted to Altered Beast. Raised-letter door. Cab was good enough to strip hardware, take off the bad wood, bleach it, and sold it to a local collector who is going to restore it.
13. Defender converted to Shinobi. REALLY bad. Fell apart from termite damage
ALL PARTS GONE - 14. Armor....Attack. All original with Vectorbeam monitor. Cab was a loss, but sold entire thing to local guy who works on vectors.
15. Double Dragon (in a Taito GTC-100 cab) converted to SF2:WW. top portion of cab was gone, tube cracked, but PCB worked.
16. Joust converted to Golden Axe. Same condition as the Defender. G07 chassis and monitor with little burn, but restraining strap around tube has rusted off. Not safe to use unless I can find a banding kit. Termite damage and the wood came apart in de-laminated sheets. Lower coin door rusted so bad that it probably won't be re-usable. Sad.
17. Q*bert converted to Time Soldiers (#1). Waterlogged and moldy. K4900 chassis. PCB gets to self test, then resets
18. Q*Bert converted to Time Soldiers (#2). Waterlogged and moldy. k4900 chassis. PCB works.
19. Street Fighter 2 in a dynamo HS-1 cab. Very little salvageable
20. Mappy #2. Completely disassembled. Ants were living in the wood and were very upset.
21. Another SF2 in a dynamo cab. Total loss.
22. Defender converted to SF2. very corroded.
23. Another SF2 in a Taito cab. Monitor, chassis and frame are all destroyed. PCB has issues. Pretty much copper scrap.
ALL PARTS GONE - 24. Phoenix converted to Guerrilla War. PCB seems to work. Toei 20" monitor has issues. Am still working on getting the monitor up and running (4/14/15)
25. Q-bert eaten by termites with no monitor. Otherwise intact. Slated parts for re-use in making another Q-bert
ALL PARTS GONE - 26. Stern Super Cobra converted to Mr. DO! Pretty much all junk. PCB wouldn't boot.
27. Another Tron converted to Two Tigers. Pretty severe burn on the tube. Fairly complete. PCBs need a few new eproms and a ctc. will test when time allows.
Yes, I have the PCBs and rotary joysticks from some of those games and will get around to them later when I have time to test them out. Also have all the monitors and chassis from the games, but need to test them also. Already had a couple of dead tubes and some of the chassis are so rusted, they were only good for harvesting a few components and width coils.
Let me know what you think. Am open to ideas. Thanks!
