Does anyone here only obtain or get rid of games strictly through Barter as apposed to cash? I think this may be the new solution for me to get rid of games because people just don't have money to spend on things like this anymore. I'm worn out on being stuck with games for months on end.

Locally, the number of ads mentioning "barter" has jumped on Craigslist. I'm guessing it has something to do with the show Barter Kings.

By the way, the premise of that show is just flat out stupid. Trading away something worth $3k to get a $2k item or even a $1k item back in return makes no sense. However, the world is full of idiots...e-bay, Tosh.O or the self scan checkout line at any local grocery store showcase some fine examples everyday.

How does the self scan checkout become a display of idiocy? I think the guys waiting for a checker while the self scan is open are the idiots.

RE: bartering, it only works if the other party is willing to give up value for desire, in other words- they'll make a bad deal because they *have* to have something. I've noticed a huge uptick in barter ads on Craigslist too, gotta be the show.

Have you seen the people trying to figure out how to operate the self-checkout machines? Pretty sure that's what he's talking about lol

I've done it a couple of times, and I'd like to do it again. I like it. You don't have to be so concerned with getting "your" price, because the value is solely in the items, and it can be subjective. One man's trash is another man's treasure.

I traded a 5x8 open trailer for a Sega Astro City candy cabinet. It was probably an even trade dollar value-wise. But I've wanted an Astro City or similar for years and didn't have room any more for the trailer. So I really felt like I scored. The guy getting the trailer was happy because he wanted to start a detailing business. Win-win.

Exactly!! I see it all the time....there should be an IQ test before you are allowed to use any self-scan device. I nearly beat a woman with a pillowcase full of pop cans for trying to pay for $20 or $30 worth of groceries in the self-scan line with nothing but change while over a dozen people waited in line behind her.

Are you sure you were at the Grocery Store? Are you sure that you weren't really at Wal-mart? It's okay I black it out too!

Seriously, take a stroll through Tard-mart in the late evening some time and you will literally encounter the finest selection of idiots your local area has to offer! And sometimes we get imports too! ;)

I've done a lot of trading games for games. My recent trade was a Toobin for a Bubbles (I traded the Toobin and got a Bubbles). The Bubbles needs work, but it's a Williams, and I like Williams more then Atari...

I think the show may be a good thing. I have also seen the number of barter ads jump on Craigslist. If more people are willing to barter then there will be more items to barter for.

Trading is my preferred way of getting new games. I can keep the line up fresh without spending anything. But it's slowed down since I've moved and cut down to bare essentials.

I didn't know there was a bartering show now,but I'm sure it'll have the same effect as the storage wars show and all the likes. Flooded with half baked idiots spoiling it for everyone else.

I see barter a lot too on CL. I got into a barter with someone, and he give me some attitude, and said "only the stuff listed." I did not like his stuff listed filled with junk, he gave me more attitiude, and I wlked away keeping my baseball cards he wanted. Bartering is bad too, because its a complete watse of time when the othe person is offering garbage.

Yeah, "ones person trash is somebody elses treasure"... in my case mines was the treasure he wanted. What a waste of time.

Be done it on a few occasions. I've traded legal services for machines or parts 3 times. Work around my house twice. About to build a detached "garage" arcade, will likely barter some of that cost.

One thing I've noticed regarding the ads on CL is the relative disparity between the opposite items. Someone wants to trade a $1000 pinball machine for a ski boat. Or someone wants to trade a $500 cabinet for a car. I would never ride in a $1000 ski boat or drive a $500 car. Safety first friends.

Value doesn't disappear in a barter system, I'm merely mutates into a different form. $100 is stil $100. That said, when I barter with legal services I do discount pretty heavily. My normal billing rate is $225, but I don't expect to accumulate $225 per hour worth of credit for services rendered, I set a fair, and low, flat rate price.

For example, a quick insurance waiver I drafted for a fellow KLOV'er was worth $100. At my office it would have cost $1500-$2000. It just depends on the difficulty of the work. A will package would be more. But some power of attorney documents are easy. Just don't ask to me up a trust unless you're trying to unload all of the games at once.

What I don't understand is why Wal-Mart doesn't sell clothes for fat people. The store is full of fat people all of the time, but they cut the men's pants off at size 42, and they don't have any of the larger neck sizes in men's shirts, XXL stuff is uncommon and XXXL isn't there at all.

I have had a few games that I got in return for work. Instead of overtime, I got a Tron, once. I got a pile of Megatouch parts machines for working on a guy's dryer.

Having the option to barter is one thing. To strictly barter is another. Anyway I see people looking for trades on stuff all of the time although in many cases cash is expected to change hands one way or the other with it unless you both have something pretty much dead on value wise. Still I've bartered for games before but not an arcade machine.

i trade all the time. i prefer to trade over sell, unless i need the cash at the time, because if i sell the wife can smell the money and comes running with her hand out.

I've only done a straight-up trade once, but have proposed them on multiple occasions. More often, I'll sell some games and then hand the cash to someone else for a game that I want. It's rare when I've got what they want, and vice versa. The straight trade option is much more satisfying.

I think the idea of trading to be a great one, it lets people who have stuff they don't want exchange it for something they do. the problem is everyone out there is only interested in trading up and i mean trading up to a point that its not even fair. like a pair of used socks for a new mini bike. I have had a barter section on my website and have placed ads in the barter section on CL and have only ever been able to do one deal out of maybe 50 trys.

By the way if anyone is interested i have some really old pinball machines that I would be willing to trade for any arcade machine. none of the pinballs are currently working, but two of them i almost have working.
