Can any one shed some light on Street fighter 2 Rainbow edition? I have a Street Fighter Cab with Rainbow Edition Installed. I want to get the original game PCB for it.
Just wondered, if its rare etc? Is it just Street Fighter 2 with a chip swap?
Thanks

Its a hack of Champ Edition, really. One of the many bootleg hacks before Capcom came out with Hyper Fighting.

There are a couple of versions of Rainbow as well. The most prominent way to tell (other than the obvious splash screen) is if you hit start during a fight, your character will change to another character. It's always the same lineup of changes, but still, its pretty cool. It also has a couple of different fireball speeds. Incredibly slow, regular, and super crazy fast. Also, depending on the rainbow version, Ryu/Ken's fierce shoryuken will travel a huge distance, horizontally. It's probably my favorite of the Champ edition hacks.

I don't believe they're too rare (could be wrong tho). I had one a couple years ago that I don't even think was in MAME, and ended up selling it for I *think* $70 or so.

Not rare. Some versions of it are but not sure which. There's so many bootlegs it's disgusting. Some are awesome to play with friends for fun. I played one edition that kens fierce shoryuken threw a wall of fireballs with it lol. Also guiles sonic boom was able to be moved manually and such. Play around with it and like stated hit start a lot!

Lol yeah I've seen that one too. Very cool. Tho I've never been able to replicate what the computer could do. I've seen E Honda throw a fireball in his hundred hand slap, as well as Chun Li shitting out a fireball from a standing fierce kick. I think I even saw Guiles flash kick shoot one. Crazy stuff.

Cool, thanks guys. I tried the start button thing, and I was able to switch multiple Fighters.
Pretty cool. I was able to throw fireballs with other fighters as well. Also, noticed I could do different moves mid flight. Any idea what to sell this for? I want to put it back to original Street Fighter.

if I remember correctly, I sold mine for somewhere around $70, give or take a few bucks. Its been a while. I'd love to offer to buy it myself since I finally have a cab to put standard JAMMA games in, but I'm on a buying blockout, lol. wife says no more for a couple of months!!

Thanks. Its cool, I wont sell it until I find a SF PCB to replace it.
Might take a couple months. Ill hit ya up then. :)

I remember digging through an ops storage and there was at least 20-30 CPS-1 SF2 boards. Almost all of them were Rainbow Edition. If these things are rare, it's probably a regional thing (like some parts of the U.S. have a lot, where some got none). The one I rarely see anymore is Blackbelt Edition, but I'm also not actively looking for it either.

Some people love the shit out of it, I can tolerate maybe 3 matches of it before it gets old. It's a conversation piece for sure and I make sure to keep one for the sake of completion (cause I am a huge SF2 fan)...just don't ask me to play it all night. ;)

Its three of the chips to make it CE, a hack or HF...
You just need to get them reburned to get to a legit version
