Does anyone on these boards revive dead SFIII:Third Strike carts? I found a guy in Japan but he wants $150 to do it. I don't know exactly how he does it, but that seems like quite a bit for that service.

Either that or does anyone know where I can get just the cart? I have the rest of the kit but my cart is dead (go figure).

That's going rate for that service. If he can revive it back to japan version its a great deal. If asia version as most do its just going rate.

There are only a few people in the whole world that has the equipment to do so. Noone in the US still does. Its not like phoenixing a cps2 game.

the CPS3 hardware was very complex. by comparison, the CPS2 to my understanding was a streamlined CPS1 on crack where the roms were encrypted and the battery powered element of it is what contains the decryption codes. hence why if the battery drops below a certain voltage on those, it loses the decryption codes and thus won't be able to start the game. you'll just get a dark blue screen.

I've never seen a CPS3, but I understand (from my experiences with MAME) that it has to install the software to a memory cartridge off a CD-ROM disc, and it takes forever to do. when the memory cartridge takes a shit, that's it, you can't run the game anymore.

:)

it's a matter of scarcity of hardware and scarcity of people available to carry out such a task. I've dropped hundreds of dollars on monitor repairs and the monitor keeps dying... so there's far worse things you can spend $150 on and not get much in return. this will at least last you I'm thinking.

Is there something about the Asia version that is undesirable? I found a working kit but it's the Asian version but I've seen a few things that hint toward it being an inferior version
