I recently bought this SF2 for dirt cheap. The cabinet was pretty good shape so I jumped for it. I'm having an issue with it that I'd like some help on. Upon start up, everything works(the music, sounds for coin drops, etc.) except the video. It shows the image in horizontal blocks about 1" in height, the whole way down the screen. I reseated all of the chips on the PCB, no change. I still can't tell if it's the software, monitor or combination of both.
Monitor is a WG Model 25K7193. Thanks.

I don't own a SFII but sometimes this sort of thing can be caused by a power supply that is not putting out the correct voltages. Take a look at the manual and the powersupply and use a multimeter/voltmeter to makes sure that you are getting the proper voltages. Even if this isn't the cause it's an easy thing to rule out.

I didn't check the power supply yet. I'll have to check when I get home if the manual I have gives the appropriate voltages. Yes, I coined it and, from memory, selected a player and fought an oppenent. Everything works besides the image. Any thoughts?

Yeah, looks like a possible board issue. Possible suicide?

I just bought one yesterday, sf2 in a z-back cab. My board just gives a white screen when turned on.

I don't mean to highjack the thread, but I also have the WG Model 25K7193 monitor in my z-back, but the power supply fuse is blown, and I'm not sure what to replace it with. It's a 5amp, but the guy I got it from didn't even know how to wire buttons, and it was blown when I got it, so I'm not 100% it's the correct one. The "manual" that came with it doesn't specify. I also know 3amp fuses are common.

Can anyone confirm it's a 5amp slow blow?

Thanks.

It's very possible. The thing is, it's not a consistent issue. It seems to change the on-screen problem every time it changes screens(Start-up, character choice, fighting). I can't confirm that fuse is a slow blow 5amp, however, I've had to deal with this before on elevators(my job). If you've got a good multi-meter(one that's rated for high voltage and amps), you can hook your meter leads to either end of the fuse holder, set it amps(AC or DC) and read what you get. Some meters even have MIN/MAX setting so you can see if it "draws" a lot on start-up, which I'm assuming is the purpose of that slow blow. If you don't have a meter, start small, a 1amp perhaps and work your way up to one that holds. Hope this helps; do be careful though.

Oh, forgot to add: Mine is a 10amp.

Thanks, I'll think I'm going to start with a 5amp sb. Found one post from some other forum where one guy had same monitor with that fuse.

Strange your problem alternates. Maybe voltage issue. Is your +5v good at the board?

Try reseating roms yet?

looks like a problem probably associated with the B & C boards. If you can switch those over to another A board you might be able to diagnose it or even solve it, thats my guess... I have a good B & C board if you need to replace them, just needs a good A-board to go with it.

Yes they do, but that is irrelevant.

Irrelevant? Okay...I found it relevant when someone said that SF2's don't suicide. Someone could read that and get confused if theirs did commit it.

Trying to help others at the same time here. Nothing wrong with that. ;)

Second that. Cps1 does not suicide. Id replace the ps for good measure. They arent that expensive and they do fail, especially after years of on location use. Make sure the voltages are in line, then push on the roms and wiggle the jamma harness. Lately ive been finding lots of bad harness connections.

Thanks, guys! Replacing the power supply is easy enough to do, like you say, just to rule that out. I did try reseating all my roms and cleaning the jamma edge connector. If it ends up being the board, is it worth it to just upgrade to SFII CE?
