This is the official restoration report on my SFII:CE. This was one of my Grail games, and it was great to get the mighty Big Blue. I picked up the cab on Craigslist on 7/30 of last year for $300. It was more than I wanted to pay given the condition, but the guy would not take less. On the plus side, at least he moved it for me. (It was in-town.) I couldn't believe I found one so close, literally about 10 miles away. This is what it looked like when I first got it.

Control panel was horrendous, bezel was faded. Monitor was terrible; everything was a sickish yellow/green. I do not have a photo of the game running on the old monitor, but you can see the burn-in on the attached photo. There was absolutely no blue in the picture; the monitor board was bad.

I sent the board in for repair, and upon the re-install, the blues were kind of there, but it still didn't look very good. I initially thought that they had done a poor job, but as it turns out, the picture tube itself was just beat. This is when I took the entire monitor assembly out of my Virtua Tennis, which I was getting rid of to make way for Pole Position. The VT monitor assembly had a good tube, but a bad board (picture did not extend to fill screen), so I took the tube from VT and combined it with the repaired SFII board. The monitors were both K7000s. The picture below was taken with the VT monitor assembly installed. This is the board that would get replaced.

The bezel and control panel overlay were replaced with repros. I took literally six months to get up the courage to do the CPO. You can see the new bezel in these pics.

Here is the CPO with new buttons and sticks. I think it came out pretty well for being a first-time job. You can also see that the front has been painted. New locks have also been put on at this point and the faded decal removed from the side.

The front and side of the cabinet. Please note that what looks like a crack in the side of the cabinet is actually glare from the slot machine. You can now also see that the picture fills the monitor 100%.

The bezel and CPO were given to me as gifts for my birthday and Christmas, respectively. All told, I have $50 in the repair of the monitor board and maybe like $20 in the ingredients for making retr0brite, which I mistakenly thought I could use on the control panel. I can still use retr0brite on some other vintage electronics, though, so I'm not inclined to count that as a restoration expense. ;)

So a pretty cheap restore of a great "silver-age" game. Thanks for checking out my project!

Looks great! I got my SFII CE big blue last November (actually it was and still is running Hyper Fighting). I have yet to replace the side art, but the bezel, marquee and cpo are in good shape. I paid $500 for mine and couldn't talk the seller down either. Were these from gameongrafix? Again it looks great. :) Shameless shot of my machine....

Yeah, that's where the stuff came from.

You really lucked out on your CPO! Super jealous!

Between the two cabs posted here, what were the order of the button colors straight from the factory? In some pics, both sides are uniform, in others player 1 and 2 are mirrored. Anyone know?

I'm pretty sure it's the old Red, White and Blue in that order. Red is always on the left and Blue is on the right end of controls. That's how I've always seen them and that's how my DarkStalkers cab was set beforehand (RGB) too. Looks more visually pleasing in that order IMO.

Your big blue's look great and I am going to soon start my own big blue restoration but I have to ask where did you get the t molding from. Seems I can track down all other parts I need except that.

I dont think I've ever seen before pics of your Street Fighter. Looks awesome now!
Feel free to bring over anything you need me to trim up!
