North american or Japanese only...

$300-400 depending on when it was last battery changed and if it comes with any art.

Great game, but not "$300-400 Great" for just the working PCB. Though, if you consider how cheap you could get an empty Dynamo cab to house it, you're looking at a $450-550 SFIII:3rd Strike. Not bad I guess.

I'm fine with playing my muffled, choppy MAME version or on Dreamcast or Xbox at full speed. :)

Best of the SF series IMO. Great animations and backgrounds. More advanced than SFII/SFA and not as bulked up as SFIV. Just right.

CPSIII games play full-speed on my MAME cab... what speed CPU are you running eseyo1?

I think Prairied was quoting full cab prices? I've not seen many CPSIII PCB's up for sale, but the ones I have seen went for around $150 if I do remember correctly.

That's actually the going rate for the US or Jap Third Strike setup in working condition. Asia version is less. These are harder and harder to come by now because they can't be easily revived. Yes, other CPS3 are cheaper but not 3S.

The carts alone sell for between $200 and $300 routinely.

My MAME setup is:

- 10.1" ASUS Netbook 1.6Ghz Intel Atom, 2GB RAM, 80GB HDD, Windows XP
- VGA out to my 52" LCD TV
- Xbox/PS2 SF Anniversary Arcade Joystick via USB Adapter

So that's why it's choppy. It's great for on-the-go and runs older games, CPS1 and MVS games just fine. I eventually want to get a cheap desktop that has better hardware, but I'm not a huge MAME fan and don't plan on making a MAME cab ever.

Yes, you're right about Prairied's post. I need to read more carefully while I'm working. Haha. With that said, $300-400 for a full working SFIII: 3rd Strike would be a great deal.

You are missing out. There are tons of great games (well, probably about 200 anyway); way too many to actually keep in your house. MAME cabs definitely are the best use of space in a home arcade.

Back on topic, I see someone on cl who wants a full game for $150. :)

I guess I'm more of a "purist" when it comes to collecting games. Don't get me wrong, I can see the value of having a MAME cab in the home if one is limited in space much like myself. That's why I have MAME setup on my netbook in case I want to play hundreds of other games that I don't have access to otherwise. But I like the idea of owning actual games and playing them in the original cabs.

For example, I could easily play SFII:WW on practically every modern console and PC, but the fact that I played the game so much as a kid made me want to own an original cab with original artwork and hardware. I know I can play console emulators on MAME as well, but I love playing NES on the actual hardware. It's just an entirely different experience. I guess nostalgia factor is huge for me.

Who knows, maybe I'll own a MAME cab someday when I have more room, but it's just not high on my priority list.

EDIT: Sorry for hijacking your price check thread with a discussion about MAME. Carry on. :D

Yes it plays fine on DC, PS2 (AE) Xbox and MAME (w/ a decent CPU) but the question was about the value for a PCB set and not if it's worth it.

I did always think that the prices would go down after they cracked the encryption for MAME and the AE versions became so common. DC versions are also easy to burn.

It's true the 5 year suicide battery life really makes it iffy to own. With Capcom arcade gone.... you'd be SOL when it dies. The Korean revive is missing the signature Hadoken sound also.
