Street Fighter 2 PAL Chips

Maybe a PALCE16V8H which most of times it's used in place of GAL16V8 but I doubt your programmer support it.

It does not. Well thanks for the help anyways! You got me farther than I would've by myself. I'll have to find someone local to burn them for me.

Obviously you can adapt/convert GAL16V8 equations to fit in other PLD but the problem is stil you programmer that doesn't suport them.

... you could buy a TL866CS (or TL866A with ISP feature), they both can program GAL16V8 and are cheap.

Don't bother with the TL866CS. I have one - the 16V8 is on the supported list, it goes through the motions of programming the part, it says it programmed the part yet the part is still blank. MFR didn't matter - Lattice, National Semi, Atmel... none of them worked properly.

All 16V8s are JEDEC compatible. I use an Advin Pilot U128+, this thing will program anything including the real old PROMs and EPROMs. Nice feature this programmer has is the "RAL" function - this will take a JEDEC file from something like a 16L8 and reconfigure it to perform the same function within a 16V8.

I have programmed quite a few GAL16V8 with the TL866CE works fine on a PCB no problems but i have had issues before on a couple which i thought might of been a faulty chip as the ones i was using were from scrap PCBs at the time

So I picked up a programmer and Im ready to start programming. I don't have a program on my computer to download Jed files. What software do you guys recommend?

I don't know if you are meaning this but you can download .JED files from JAMMArcade.net using your browser (Chrome, Internet Explorer, etc..)

When I try to download it says my computer does not support the file. Also when I download it from other places in saves it as a Bin. I need a program that reads JED files. Just an issue with my computer. I just need to download a program.

There is no special program needed to download .JED file, they are just like other files.Personally I don't have any issue downloading them with different browser (Mozilla, Chrome, Internet Explorer). If you computer warns you that the file is unsupported , this is clearly right since there is no software affiliated to this format (I mean, it doesn't exist)
You have just to open the .JED with the software of your programmer and program the chip, that's all.

I'll mess with it more tonight, I only tried for a few minutes. I had something similar where I had to download a Zip program to properly unzip a compressed file. My computer sucks!!!

Dead End

So I have the programmer and the files in .BIN format but when I try to open Jedutil the DOS screen opens and quickly closes. I am not very computer savvy but I can usually work through things. Why cant I open Jedutil to convert the file? Im sure im doing something stupid like usual. Can somebody walk me through converting a .BIN file into a .Jed file in layman's terms. Thanks

First of all, which is your operating system?
Anyway, to convert a binary fuse map (the format used by MAME) to JED, you have to run this command from a DOS prompt (don't double-click the JEDUTIL executable otherwise it will closes itself)

jedutil -convert dump.bin dump.jed

P.S.
To open a DOS prompt follow this procedure:

Thanks Caius, I really appreciate your patience with me on this. I never used dos before so that is new for me. I have to mess around a little more, when I copied your instructions I get the error in the picture. I definitely downloaded (at least I think) Jedutil to my computer. Ill have to do some more research. Thanks again.

Jedutil must be place in the folder when you are oerating (in your case 'Denise') or in a directory declared in the system path environment variable :

You may need to navigate to the folder where jedutil is located. I would place the jedutil and associated bin files in a folder on the desktop. Then in DOS, navigate to that folder and run the command caius suggested.

Well guys I finally got around to trying this and I am almost there. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I appreciate your patience with me as I have never used DOS before. I created a path after putting both the jedutil and the file in a folder on the desktop. I see the jedutil is working as you can see by the options it produces in DOS. I run the command and get the error message below. I tried every variation to get this converted. Im sure it just how I am entering it. Do you guys have any suggestions. Once I get it once I will always have it down.

The command line you entered is wrong (it's generic one using 'dump.bin' as input file) and doesn't reflect the real name of the file you have put in the folder along with jedutil. So, you have two options : renaming the file in the folder as dump.bin or give the command using the actual file name (from picture it seem to be 'rom63b.1a'

Anyway, try first:

jedutil -convert rom63b.1a rom63b.1a.jed

If it's not working, add the extension .bin to the input file so:

jedutil -convert rom63b.1a.bin rom63b.1a.jed

I did try the proper file name and it gave me an unable to open source file error. I'm going to try a diffrent file and rename them to see if I can get it to work.

Rename the input file with a shorter name and try again but don't forget to add the .bin extension.
