So I just picked up a Street Fighter 2 Hyper Fighting arcade a few days ago for $50 (because the owner said it wasnt working). The power supply knob was turned off, so turned in on, and bang fired right up. I love when people are too lazy to fix their toys.

Anyways, I like to make my toys original to when they were released, so I wanted to know about the side artwork, control panel artwork, and bezel as they related to Hyper Fighting... I have searched on the internet and I cant seem to find conclusive evidence on what this game originally had on it. I have the marquee on order, that was easy to tell if it was for Hyper Fighting.

I loved playing this game as a kid and stayed up way late the night I got this working. Fun times!

Thanks for any input.

Thanks glad to be here! It was an easy "repair" if you can call it that. Totally stoked tho!

I would bet and yes it is considered a repair, it was not working and now it is working. You would be surprised at how many people don't know about the power switch on the top of these games.

There is lots of good people who are very knowledgeable and will help you with your projects and repairs. I personally like to see new members here and will help if I can.

Hyper Fighting was just a tweak from Champion's Edition. Nothing changed other than the marquee in terms of artwork "officially".

Hyper Fighting didn't have it's own artwork apart from the marquee. What I think looks best is using all the CE art + HF marquee

Well that is cool and easy! Man this keeps getting better and better! I plan to repaint the cab since it is a little scratched, and remount the PCB board... My first arcade game owned is quite a success I think!

Looks like it was a SF2 WW cab (bezel and cpo are WW)...CE and HF should really be played with in a cab with a 25" monitor...you could re-convert to WW or it's a good candidate for Final Fight, Strider, Black Tiger, etc

Interesting, thanks for the good info, and quick responses. I think for now I will play as is, and then convert in the future. So the PCB for Hyper Fighting was just put into a WW cab... amazing all these old arcades were converted so many times into different games. So I will get a WW pcb, and for now keep the HF pcb in that cab too so I could switch from game to game.

HF deserves a 25 inch monitor, but he can still utilize it as a general SF2 cab. :p

I agree that there are signs that it could be a dedicated WW, but it might still be a weird conversion. If the OP could take a wider pic showing us the entire cab we could determine what it is.

Also +1 on HF art. It's the CE CP and Bezel with the HF Marquee. There also doesn't seem to be a Big Blue version of the HF marquee (I haven't seen one in the 15+ years of collecting these things), making CE the only CPS-1 SF2 to get a Big Blue release (cue someone finding one in a random corner of some long forgotten warehouse).

So far I think the consensus is HF came dedicated in Z-Backs and I believe...was it HS-5's? CE First Gen Big Blue, Dynamo (HS-1's?), and Z-Backs. I should really just write this shit down as I am told instead of just trying to remember for later...and trying to pull the info off the top of my head every time one of these threads pops up. :p

HF is the more desirable PCB and...honestly...the best of the 3 CPS-1 SF2's. You'll likely discover that on your own after 5 minutes of playing WW after playing HF. :p

This is the only other pic I have on my phone. Is this wide enough? If not I will take another when I go home.

A steal for $50, nice pick up. Does it have any side art on your cab?
This is the side art WW has, a pic that I took when I restored mine.

Someone chime in, but I don't think original artwork for ww had button decals on the CPO. It was blank.

It does not have any side work on the cab. But once I repaint it or touch it up, I will definitely want to get some art work for it.

The bezel for Hyper Fighting is the same as Champion Edition but there is an added sticker that says "This Champion Edition Contains The Official Capcom Turbo Enhancements...".

This is what the marquee should look like:

I removed image tags because it's HUGE and fairly high quality. Printable, almost! It looks to be based on a PSD floating around. Maybe grab that.

As for restoring it to a WW, there isn't much of a good reason to do so... HF removes *nothing* from WW in terms of art assets, gameplay mechanics, music, etc, and the additions HF added to the cabinet don't really detract from what WW had to offer. It's a very respectful field upgrade to keep in the cabinet, and a much more playable game. WW was fun, but aside from being very slow it's laughably broken compared to HF.
