just got this stratovx, it comes up with lines running vertically, squiggling, rolling, etc.

looks somewhat like a sync issue, though it is not playing blind and doesn't respond to being coined up, etc.

I pulled out the main pcb, reseated every chip, the board is really really clean.

pulled the power supply board, had a bad fuse, replaced it, but it appears to have been NO factor. nothing changed before or after the fuse change. I didn't get a chance to see if it blew automatically again.

I did get +4.98 on one of the legs of a ram chip, so that is ok.
that is as far as I have got so far.
I will try to shoot some pics of the monitor (which appears to be original)

guess once I confirm I have good voltages everywhere, it may just be a board issue at this point huh?

I think I am going to try to hack in a switcher and see what happens.

I was getting +4.95 on the sound board, +4.78 on the main board

I turned it up to +5.08 on the existing power supply.

the +12 comes in around 11 on both boards, but the -5 is coming in at +.18 or so.

looking at this, above, should be pretty easy to run a switching power supply in this thing huh?

A switcher may fix the problem. That's what I had to replace in a couple of my cabs that had the monitor on and do the same stuff you described with yours.

ok then, looks like I have a board issue.

quarterarcade has one for $85 I guess I should buy it. not sure how much I want to invest in this game though, lol.

thanks for the replies

well I was getting off and on readings on the +5 and +12 not to mention nothing on the -5 so I wired in a switcher.

Now I have a solid rug pattern.

no reset button on this pcb, bummer.

time for a new pcb I think.
