Strato Fighter board no sound... just a humming noise.

My strato fighter jamma board loads and plays however there is no sound. Just a hum from the speakers. I have tested board on another system and same issue. Any suggestions on where to start looking for the problem on the board?

Assuming you have tried the volume pot, the first thing to check would be whether running your finger over the pins for the power amp generates any static.

If not, the power amp or capacitors associated with it are faulty, if so, the problem is in the sound hardware or audio pre-amp.

Here are the dip settings for the game:

Dip switch 9 should be turned on.

Also, did you actually coin it up and play? It might be set for no sound in attract mode...
Yes did coin up and played... its a fun game... sucks with no sound.

I will try the dip switch settings and see if that works.

Failing that I will play with the sound pot.

Cleaned the contacts and tried in another cabinet and same issue. Game works fine but no sound. Just a humming noise through the speakers.

I cleaned the connections and wiggled the wires. Still no solid sound... I also fiddled with the volume pot and flipped on dipswitch #9 so I could get the attract sound on. I was able to get some small intermittent sounds that may have been the game but they were muffled by static and hum. I'm pretty sure they were game sounds. They got louder and softer when I adjusted the sound pot. I didn't want to adjust it too high for fear of blowing a speaker. The pins for the sound are samwiched between the 2 boards so I was unable to run my finger along the back to see if that made a difference when powered up. I did clean off all stuff surrounding the sound pot and didn't notice anything out of the ordinary like a blown resistor or cap. Any more suggestions guys? I might be on the right track poking around the sound pot area.

Did some more cleaning and I think I might have found the issue. One of the ground wires on the jamma wire harness doesn't seem to be soldered properly to the terminal. I pinched it together and played with the pot some more... And I got sound!!!
Its not perfect yet but getting there. I played with the sound pot and it would come and go... do these pots tend to go bad? Maybe a capacitor in the same area? Thoughts?
I'm gonna solder the connection tomorrow but the sound comes and goes when I play with the pot... maybe I should re solder all the connections around that area too.?
