When I power on my VS cab, I can hear the monitor doing things and the coin counter starts counting (every few seconds it goes up 1).

-I just put a 'new' working PCB in it (last one fried when the JB/JC got switched)
-I got a working chassis that arrived cracked. Soldered jumpers, now it turns on. Nothing shows up on the screen. Getting power, I have to discharge it and I hear a loud pop.

So why when I power it on, nothing is happening but the counter and some noise off of the back of the monitor?

Hey, I'm the guy who sold you the board. I think perhaps it's a short in the wiring somewhere, you should still be able to unplug the monitor and perhaps even the coin door connectors to help diagnose the issue. Plus make sure that all the pins are straight and making good contact when installing the daughter board.

Check the actual harness and look it over for issues like bent pins and shorts there. I have had several instances where there were shorted out pins or solder joints to the harness that were bad. Was the cab ever working? I have a qbert that did almost exactly the same thing when I got it, but it was just a voltage issue and a loose connection. The smoking part concerns me, again leading to a short somewhere. Hopefully some others will chime in with some suggestions. Good luck, hope you get it working!!

Also was doing more research, and the manual for dr. mario (or any game on a daughterboard) it says to make sure the caps around the sockets are carefully bent sideways and downa bit so they dont touch the bottom of the daughterboard. The tops of the caps could be touching a solder area on that causing an issue..
