strange interference on daytona usa le [solved! new problem tho]

hey guys, i have a question for you. i have a daytona usa limited edition single cab. these units shipped with a k7500 as opposed to the standard nanaos. for some reason, there's interference in the monitor as what I believe is called herringbone altho i could be wrong. so far ive tried adding an additional ground between the pcb and the monitor, removing a ground (incase some wires somewhere were too close together), and disconnecting the sound amp incase the speakers were causing the interference all to no avail. the only thing i havent tried is disconnecting the marquee light which im about to do in a minute.

i saw kens post about jumpering the two grounds together but it uses a computer-style psu that i can't do that on. it's a happ psu so it can't be that old, voltage reads 5.10 on the button.

what else can I do to get rid of this interference? its not on any of my other machines and moving it around doesnt help. :(

try turning your brightness down a hair

ok i just tried that but you can still see it with the brightness turned down. i also disconnected both the "race leader" lamp fixture and the marquee light fixture, but no luck. i really thought that wouldve been it, all the grounds check out all the way to the ground prong on the cord... i dont know what else it could be :(

also i want to state that this monitor just a few days ago had a new cap kit and flyback installed, but the problem still hasnt gone away.

you can also try reseating connectors and any socket mount chips

i just tried that i connected the board to another model 2 setup i have and it works fine, hooking it back up i reseated the connectors but its still showing interference.

i cant get any photos of it so i edited a screenshot to make it show what it looks like. this is what it looks like currently

that pattern moves as well, kind of jumps all over the place. it either does that, or this

the second image is not retrace lines, but the same kind of interference youd get if you hooked up an atari console to a tv. the lines will roll up at a fast pace, then slow down, then reverse, then speed up, then slow down, reverse, etc.

bump - anybody have any idea how i can fix this? the reason im bumping this is cause its hard for me to leave the machine turned around the way it is, and i dont want to put it back without fixing it first. :(

ok i just hacked a vga cable to replace the current video connection and the interference is still there! i replaced the current connectors with a new, shielded connector that has two ferrite cores at the each end of the cable and theres still interference. now i am really at a loss and have no idea what to do :(

just on a lark , do you still have the RF filter on the ac side , if so try changing it out if you have another. My old afterburner had a problem similar , took me forever to figure out , but I changed out the line filter ripple went away

Is there ANYTHING else plugged in and turned on anywhere in the room (or on the same breaker) as this game - i/e a fan (even a ceiling fan), refrigerator, neon sign, other games, portable light, radio/TV, etc.? If so, try unplugging them all, or try moving the game to a different outlet.

Sometimes electrical interference from other items will cause this....

i believe the rf filter is built into the power supply as its a fairly new computer based psu.

the only other thing turned on in my room is my ceiling fan. but i have several games in this room, and none of them show any interference except this one. no matter where i move it in the room, that same interference is still there. :(

some good news! on a hunch i thought some wires might be crossed somewhere, so i decided to check the monitor chassis for ac voltage. i touched one end of my mutlimeter to a loose screw i had lying around and the other end to the monitor chassis. sure enough, i got a reading of .5v.

now its my understanding that a ground such as a monitor chassis should read 0v, so i decided to disconnect all the wires attached to the ground block. sure enough the interference went away!

although i think i have another problem now. after disconnecting the ground block, i now get a reading of 2v off the monitor chassis. how that reading could have gone up i have no idea. but am i correct in assuming that this should read 0v?

most meters read slightly off and chances are you will not get a 0 reading at all. does your main power cord have its earth ground pin on it ?

yeah it does. when i first tried to figure out where the interference was coming from i wanted to make sure all the grounds were connected properly, so i checked every ground i could for continuity with the ground prong. everything came back fine.

im still irked about why i got those readings. the first time i tried it it was 0.5v, then after i removed the ground block the interference went away but now it reads 2v? how does that even happen? i mean the interference is gone, i just dont know if its safe to leave it like this.
