Maybe the plastic plugs were stock and just meant as bumpers protecting art? The screw holes in my picture could have been a vendor tag or tax plaque. The small screw holes do not appear on both sides of my cabinet.

You line up a few BZ's next to one another, about three feet apart, put a pole in them and you hang your clothes out to dry while playing. It's obvious these were all from a laundromat...
This was my first thought as well!
I think it's pretty interesting that such a common game has these holes and no one here has really commented on them before.

I wonder if those could be there as a manufacturing aid? Picture a hoist with an attachment like ice tongs that hooks into those holes so they can raise and move the cabinet around the factory.
Are there any other differences between those cabs with holes and the ones without; like rear hand holds or rear tip/vent brackets?

These holes are also present on the Battlezone in "Crabtowne" in Glen Burnie, MD.

Just to add to it, mine is #3533 and it doesn't have any holes like that... and yes, it came from a laundromat. So, rule out those being for hanging clothes on.
