So, Ive got a Galaxian. Just bought a board from Djdns, I know for a fact its fully working, and it also plays blind. Whenever I fire the game up, I get crazy colored lines all up and down the screen. When I coin up, the game starts, and you can almost make out the lines across the screen from when you shoot. I've tried swapping monitors out, same prob. Galaxian has something I've never seen before: some sort of adapter that goes between the video cable, and the monitor board. It says electrohome I do believe. Tried cleaning that, got a little change, but not much. When I bought this game it had been sitting in a storage unit for three years and had evidence of a vermin nest inside. So far I havent found any wires chewed through, but I suspect this problem is somewhere in the wiring. One wire in the right bottom corner has some gnawing evidence, but just the shield, and its not touching anything. Could it be the power supply? It still has the original inside. If it is the wiring, how hard is it to obtain new harnesses? Thanks in advance for your help. -Jason

Check the video gnd going to the monitor and the sync polarity, reverse polarity on the sync can cause that problem and check that the sync is actually getting to the monitor, if all those check out you most likely have a monitor problem.

I pulled a working monitor out of another game, and had the same result, so im thinking the problem lies somewhere between the board and monitor....could it be a power supply issue?

It very well could be. Are you using a switcher, or the on-board PS?

I had a Galaxian that wouldn't produce anything except a white out-of-sync screen. I was going to convert it to DC and add a switcher anyway, so I did so, and when I booted it up after the mod it came right up (despite some graphics glitches that were unrelated).

check to make sure all voltages from the ac tranformer that goes to the pcb are present and in the correct range.

clean or replace the fuse holders on the power board located near the transformers.

I'll try that, as for the wiring, if it is an issue, how hard is it to get ahold of new wiring for a midway cab (assuming most of the old midway cabs had about the same wiring..)

Alright, finally got my games moved into my new house, and I've been back to tinkering with this game again. I found some chewed wires (found an empty mouse nest when I first bought this game) and I electrical taped them, but when I fire the game up, with or without a board, I get shocked touching anything metal inside the game. Im sure its a ground somewhere, but everything appears to be in place. Any thoughts or ideas?

Whoa!!! Just had a flyback blow up in my face!!! Never had that happen before. All I did was wiggle the white wire going from it to the chassis, and BOOM! Damn...

Ground is an important thing, now isn't it?

Check to see if the ground prong is cut off of the power cord, and work forward from there.

Thats what I thought too, but the wire that is on this game, (which I am assuming is the original wire) is an old circular two prong cord with no ground at all. Ive never felt the electricity until today though which is weird, it was even running through the pcb.

Which monitor do you have in your Galaxian cabinet? If it's a G07-CA0, then you need the little adapter card for that monitor. If it's a different monitor, you don't need that little adapter. Just make sure that you have the syncs going to the right place for the montior you're using, once you have fixed your flyback...

It has the little electrohome adapter to fit on the chassis, but it only has one vid connector coming from the harness, so I dont know what I would need to put a diff monitor in just to test it.

Okay, put a diff monitor in the game, one that I know is working, and Im getting this image:

Everything else on the game seems to work correctly, so that may rule out my original thought about wiring being bad. Is it possible the little electrohome monitor adapter has gone bad? If so, how would I even go about getting another? This game is the only one I own that uses one.

All that adapter does is route signals from one pin to another. It's possible that the pins have broken solder joints on them, you can always try reflowing it.

On the monitor above, have you attempted to adjust the image? It looks like it just needs the sync adjusted.

all the pins seem intact, and I did all sorts of adjustments on the monitor, and thats actually the best I could get it, I did however notice when I shook the video cable around the picture varied...
