I have a weird monitor behavior in my Mat Mania. When it's powered up the picture is ok. But when I turn it off, I get this weird static color swatch about 2-3" across. It slowly fades away after a couple of minutes. Pics attached. It's hard to catch with the camera, but there's also a faint circle of milky color about 8" in diameter...as a background to the swatch. The circle fades to nothing afer a few seconds, but this color swatch remains there for at least a minute before fades completely away.

Anyone know what causes this? Should I worry? It bugs the hell out of me, but I can leave it alone if the monitor is not dying. If it makes any difference, I THINK this might be a WG4600...it's been a couple of years since I looked. I'd look now, but the game is in a corner and I have to move things around to get this one out.

So dirty guns can cause a residual color blast like that when the power is turned off? Interesting.

Ok, I've been looking for an excuse to try my B&K rejuv. I guess this is it. It'll be a while before I can try it though. To much "real" life going on to learn a new toy right now.

I have a GO7 in my Burgertime that has this exact same issue. I rejuvenated the tube, degaussed the tube, and installed a rebuilt chassis for the monitor and still have the same issue.

Anyone have any other ideas what might cause this?

It's not really a failure...

When you shut off a television set or a monitor, the input voltage goes away - therefore everything should shut off. Sometimes, however, in some sets, you get residual emissions from the tube even after the deflection has stopped. This could either be caused by the driving circuitry or perhaps the tube itself.

I don't know exactly what causes it to persist on some monitors verses others. I've never sat down to figure it out. It's nothing to be worried about.

It used to be real common on tube type TV's, as the deflection circuitry and video amplifier would still be hot for a few seconds - so the picture would collapse down into a little dot. If the CRT is still emitting for a while, it would stay lit for a few seconds. If anything, residual emissions would point to a really strong tube, not a weak one.

Yeah, I remember the television dot. In fact I used to have really strange dreams about it when I had a friend sleep over and we would "camp out" in the living room.

This is weird due to the shape - the edges are very sharp and the fact that the shape and size don't change. It just gets more and more faint until it's finally gone. And it takes a looong time to fade away. LIke minutes. Just weird. And it bugs me. A lot. I've been living with it since I got the game working. But I haven't used it much. Now it's set up semi-permanently and it gets a lot of play. Nephew loves it! :) So I need to make sure that it isn't about to shoot craps.

My Ms. Pac cocktail with a rebuilt GO7 has been on location at one of my restaurants for over a year now. It does this when I turn it off at night. A year straight of 12 hours of operation and it still works and looks great.
