I have a 19" tube which has a few (5) bent pins (approx 10-15 degrees from their proper position).

are these pins likely to be brittle and break off when i straighten them ?

is there a way to reduce the risk of breakage ?

Cheers!

With the power cord unplugged to the monitor and the neckboard not plugged onto the tube, you can carefully bend the pins back. Use needle nose pliers and bend the pins s-l-o-w-l-y.

ken,

thanks for the advise. crt is disconnected at the moment so no issue there.

are such pins known to break off as a result of being bent, while trying to straighten ?

is there any value in pre-heating with a pencil blow torch ?

Cheers!

do NOT preheat. I could just see that tube blowing on you. Just bend it like he said. If you bend it too far and break the tube or break off the pin, you can throw the tube away.

I bent one recently on a tube, and I just bent it back carefully with some needle-nose...

Thanks you guys!

Maximum caution, fingers crossed behind the back, tongue to the left, suck it and see.

Got it. oh and no blow torch. rats. :D
