So the basement arcade has expanded to the point my PCB storage shelf is
disappearing. What do you guys think about storing PCBs in the garage?
I live in NJ so it doesnt reallly get super hot or super cold here. Generally
20-90 deg. Am I asking for trouble? If the arecade stuff expands to another
area of the house my wife will kick my ass.

I think you'll be ok as long as you keep them dry, clean and tucked away. Electrical components should be fine cold stored and fine in 90 degree heat as well. I store all of my arcades in the garage. Of course, its shut down for the winter, but they are all there. No issues yet. And its like 10 degrees out.

box them and maybe throw some desiccant packs in the boxes. I would say 20 degrees is cold, but if inside a sealed garage, its ok. if you live near a beach, then salt water in the air might be very bad for them.

Nowhere near the beach (15 miles).. closed garage. Part of the house so its always warmer then the outside temperature. They will be sealed in anti
static bages, padded and in individual boxes. These are all my backup boards.

If you want an extra degree of protection, go with anti-static bags made to hold moisture-sensitive components, and throw a couple fresh dessicant packets in there. Make sure they're sealed up tight.

Why not store backup PCBs in your cabs? I know you don't want to jam a lot of junk in there and block air flow, but there should be plenty of room for 1 or maybe two Priority mail boxes.

Yea thats a good idea. Lots of empty space in most of them. Probably do that.
