Who's got one, two or more? How big? How much do you pay a month? What do you have in there (Generally speaking Ie Parts, Games, Non-Aracde Stuff)? Electricty?

I've had one for a while 10x10 for 59 a month no electricty. And a 82 Ford Courier Pickup for 44 a month (Stored outsided) Just recently moved it so I don't have that space any more :)

Was trying to get out og my other unit and was moving games to the garage. Needed to get rid of two Dinoscores (Just sold and being picked up Wednesday), a game I need to meet someone half way with. A couple monitors and a token counter.

Well last Friday I took over another unit 10x10 which was almost right across from mine. It had a Pinball, 3 jukes, 4 arcade games (Just sold one NBA Jam and about to go take the hammer to the other 3) and assorted junk. I was planning on getting rid of it and maybe keeping myother one. But found out my mother in law wants use of the music room for Mary-Kay. Which means I have to move my tokens to the garage and our wedding presents out. So the games I just moved from the storage unit have to go back. And my wife said she wants her own unit. I was like no. I'll fill one up as much as I can and put my non-important ie empty cabs in the back of the other one and you can put your stuff in front. But I found a better solution posted below.

When I went to go pay today (and meet someone at my unit to buy a game) I asked him how much one of the larger units was and he said he was thinking about that the other day (For me) when I got the other one that it would be cheaper to get the bigger one. With 2 10x10's total of 10x20 I would pay 118. But with a 10x35 Only 95. He said if I come in Monday first months rent would be 25 and I get a free lock. And I have a month to move my other stuff to the new unit. Cool thing is they took out a wall to make 2 units one so I have doors on both sides. So my wife's stuff can go on one side and mine the other.

As far as what I will have in there Arcade cabinets mostly Moppets but also a Bump N Jump, Some parts and 13" Monitors. Maybe some tokens. The my wife's stuff and our wedding stuff.

Looking forward to other resposes.

I used to share a small office space which was situated next to/within a storage unit facility in Huntington Beach, CA. Really, it was my friends place, but he let me use it if I paid half the rent on it. Anyhow, the place was 1200sq ft, cost $800/month total and it had a small office up in the front, a bathroom plus (the best part) water, trash and electricity were also included in the price. So, for $400 (my half), I had a place nearby to crash, meet up with people, etc. ...and use all the electricity and water I wanted. :)

My main facility is way down in the San Diego area which is nowhere near my home, so hanging out there is difficult at best. It wasn't much to look at, but I have to admit that it was kind of nice having that crummy little shop nearby at my disposal.

I know you have posted threads about money being tight and saving up for a house. That being the case, why do you even have one storage unit, let alone multiple? I say get rid of all of them and the stuff in them. Just keep the games in your house that you play and have room for. Put the money you were paying towards the storage units into your savings account.

I will co-sign what Spyridon is saying, seems like you should be finding ways to save money not spend more. If you do keep one make sure you are using all of the space floor to ceiling. In mine we built shelving that went to the ceiling so every square inch was being used.

If I moved all the games to the garage +our wedding stuff (Wife's other stuff is already in the garage) then no room for tokens. I do have 30 or so live turtles + my dog in the garage and they take up space as well. I was going to get doors on my metal building on my property but the guy never called back and now the road washed out. I may be selling a game soon and after I pay my City taxes and have someone cut the grass (250ish) the rest is going to credit card debt. I'd love to get out of the storage units but no way possible. I still have a bunch of stuff back in AR to eventually bring here.

It's always possible to get out of a storage unit. All you have to do is take everything out and throw it in the dumpster. Based on what was in the 2nd storage unit you took over you'll be paying more in storage fees than the stuff is worth.

Sometimes a great deal really isn't much of a deal at all. Take all that stuff to a swap meet and make some money. No point in holding on to junk that will only depreciate further the longer you hold on to it.

I have a 10x20 - access gate, cameras, and a light inside. I pay $135/month. It's also in the middle of town about $3 minutes from my apartment.

I could save money by getting one farther out, or in one of the closer suburbs (about a 20 min drive on the interstate) if I wanted...

Most of what will be in there is Moppets and Moppet parts which will never be thrown out. As far as the other storage unit I took over I am only saving the Pin which might get sold, a small table, 2 cardboard barels (Possibly to store tokens in), a portable fooze ball table. I sold the NBA Jam cab. Parted the Dual VS and Millipede, Plan on putting the juke boxes on ebay tomorrow each with a buy it now of 100 with a best offer option. WOW cab is next on the chopping block. Not much left but a microwave and the laser disk players which will probably get chunked as well.

Got to have space to run my business which is picking up nicely. Have to go through at least 20,000 tokens tomorrow. Anyone want to help?

I've never had a storage unit and I will never get one. If I don't have the space for something, then I don't buy it. Plain and simple. In my opinion, once you start getting storage units you are crossing the very thin line separating collecting and hoarding.

I already know I hoard :) When you have 4 of one game and plan on turning more of your cabinets into that game then you are a hoader. What is sad is I may have played that game once this year. He He.

Might I suggest a gallon of gasoline and a pack of matches?

You're hoarding trash... you've spent a lot of money on trash... you've spent a lot of money on shipping trash... you've spent a lot of money on storing trash.

I used to have 3 10x30's full of games for a few months($150 a month each back in the 90's). It was a lot of work, but I sold most, crushed a few, kept a few and gave away a few.

Storage is a waste. Use it for a few months for the bulk buy but thats it. So if you go storage, have a plan to get out.

When I needed more space, I bought an 8x20 cargo container. You can get them for about $750-$1500. You can rent them for a reasonable price, but the delivery fee is like $100-$200.

Well, I have a problem turning down free games. When I find someone giving away a Defender cocktail, Cyberball, Rampage World Tour, and SMB - and they have to be gone NOW - I have to find a place for them. I don't have a garage or basement like a lot of people, so I have a storage unit. I figure my rent+storage is a lot less than most people's house payment.

I have since sold the Defender and Cyberball, am selling the RWT, and am keeping the SMB, so I'm pretty far ahead in my expenses vs profits at this point.

Someday I'll have a house with a garage, and I'll no longer have a storage unit (I hope). And a lot of my "projects" are only projects because I have little room to work on them at this point. I'd have more done if I had room to paint, etc...

Considering I might be selling one of my games (if I can get it working) for almost as a recent Starwars cockpit a fellow KLOVer sold. SO go ahead and call it trash all you want :)

I have two 10 x 25's and I pay $175 a month for both.
One unit is nothing but parts (about 50,000) and the other is 3/4 games and the rest parts.

Noice,

I admit to being nosy... but what is all this wedding present stuff? I mean, haven't you opened it yet? And if so, why are you using what is usable already instead of storing it? Yup... go ahead and say it's none of my business... but I am curious...

Just don't go selling the CC moppet before I get enough money to buy it! (No joke I really want it)

Weeding stuff like small appliances and nick nacks. Staying with her mom and step dad and they already have that stuff set-up. I could care less. Give me a Microwave and a fridge/freezer and I am set :)

The CC Moppet isn't going anywhere. Sadly it might get parted out and re-converted back to a Pirate Treasure. But that is a long way down the road. For now it's punishment is to sit in a dark lonely room all by it's self.

You can't convert that back! That would be destroying a classic!

And I totaly agree that a storage unit is a waste of money but having my games all crammed into the garage and not being able to work on them very well (Having to do that in the driveway) or play them because of space ruins the hobby. So if I move most of the stuff to storage I should have room to work on a game or two and maybe have my pinball which when working I know will get some play as I love pins better than vids anyway.
