I know each area is different but im looking to rent a 10x10 for a few months to clear out garage and organize. Whats a decent rate for a 10x10 uncontrolled climate storage?

Its all relative... I am looking for a climate controlled storage unit here in the SF Bay Area. I just checked this weekend and the 10 x 20s are $237 per month and the 10 x 10s are $197 per month. Of course, this is the Bay Area where your average 2,000sq home is over $1mil.

You should probably be able to find something much cheaper than these rates in Ohio.

A Google search for self storage in your ZIP code should give you the exact rates for any size storage you need.

I pay $85 for a 10x30 with electricity. It is out in the sticks thought but only about 10 minutes from the house.

look around most storage places have move in specials. $1 for the 1st month and you an move out at the end of the month. Keep in mind that there is usually fees to setup the rental. But it should be $20-$30.

I believe it's $35 per month for a 10'x10' in my area.

I actually had an office (heat, air, electric, whatever) for $250 a month from the same people...I think it was around 15'x40' in size.

That's a pretty good rate even with the office. Now if it had internet hehe

Do not fool yourself into thinking it will only be for a few months. Once you get a storage place you will just fill it up and be wishing for a bigger one. Trust me I know these things! :p

Look on your local CL. Most of the desperate storage places in your area will be posting deals there. Find out the best deal per sqft then call the place you would like to be in and ask them to match that price. If they are not full they will match in most cases.

They know once they get you in there it will be hard for you to leave...

I found a 10x15 for $118/month and i plan on 3 months. First month is $1 plus admin fee of $20 so. $118x2 $236+$21 .. $257 / 3 months = $82 and some change per month plus tax. Not bad for 24 hour access facility.

I wont be suckered in to stay longer. I have an agenda that must be completed or ill find myself and my shit out in streets. I figured 3 months is plenty for me to get done what needs to get done.

Thanks for the CL tip BTW as i haven't looked there yet.

The closest one to me (North Wales, PA) is about $100/month for 10x10 climate controlled, about the same for uncontrolled (I assume they are having a sale on the climate controlled). One slightly farther out is $89 for uncontrolled 10x10.

Do be careful - Before I had a house, I had a storage unit. When I finally cleaned it out (ahh, moving day. I'm glad we had good movers), most of it was worthless and ended up in the trash within a year. There's lots of good reasons to rent one, but the 'out of site, out of mind' thing can leave you with a massive amount of junk, stacked so that you can't get at it, which you never bother to go through, but which you are paying big bucks to store.

Yea im housing about 9 cabinets and equipment that will more less be brought back home one by one. Ill probably store junk, space pending until i have time to clean it out. My main objective is to get my garage organized so i have some room

I dont have space in garage to restore right now so i figured this would help me as well as let me wife park in garage so she doesnt have to defrost windows.

I'd only consider paying for storage if I ran across a bulk deal that was so good it made it worthwhile, or if I needed temporary storage while finishing a gameroom or moving.

They're a money drain and unless you have an exit strategy up front, you'll be there longer than you originally planned.

Just think what that $100 bucks or more you'd spend a month could do if you instead invested it on your collection?

I've known way too many folks that paid good money to store crap, eventually spending more than the contents were worth- they'd be better off donating everything and buying new.

I'd recommend really thinking it through first. Let's see a show of hands- what does everyone spend on storage per year, and how happy about it are you?

Do you have the space for/have you considered an outfit like PODS who will come drop a storage container at your house? Might be more convenient.

PODS i believe is based out of CBUS but yea ive considered them and they are pricey. I need weekly access to it and PODS wont provide that unless i pay to have my container on ground level and even then the hours are restricted.

They won't just let you keep it in your driveway for that time? That was what I was getting at. If so, the convenience factor might outweigh the additional expense and a storage container in your driveway would be a motivating factor to get your cleanup done faster...

They will but my homeowners association needs to preapprove anything longer then 2 weeks.

$194/month for those here in columbus. No wonder why they are struggling here. Holy sheit. Plus a POD would keep me from parking both cars in garage :(

Did find a new apartment complex in decent part of city offering $50/mnth for 10x20 but with those security is an issue for me. Maybe ill drive by today and check it out. I know in the apartment i lived in, the garage walls didnt go all the way up and it was nothing more then plywood so if someone really wanted in, they could get in

im with Mike...dont do it unless you just have to! been in storage now for 11yrs and got bigger and bigger ones. this yr i finally scaled down to 3 [2-10x10(climate controlled) for $55ea and a 18x30 for $130] for $240 total....which comes to a little over $3 a sqft. i think i have a pretty good deal and its right in town(Dallas) good shape buildings.

BUT....dont do it!

It varies by location, and most importantly, the company. Most storage places are individually owned and charge whatever they want.

Here in Dallas/Fort Worth prices can vary (at least in my research) 100% from one location to another. Depends on the part of town they are in.
