Stone Dead Battlezone Repair

Open face (conversion) like Red Baron.

Though I prefer the "periscope" version.

oh right, that was a thing lol

The nice feature of the open-face BZ cab is that you can convert it to play RB pretty easily. Especially if you have a Braze HSS kit, as it eliminates the need to blue-wire mod the main board to add the extra ROM. Plug in HSS kit, swap the two graphics ROMs, swap aux boards, swap CP, add one jumper wire to get -22V over to the aux board, and you've got an RB.

Plus you don't get pink eye.

And we're done!

Monitor got a cap kit, a clean, and replaced three transistors in the Z axis section (Q500-502). Gave the rest of the interior of the cabinet a clean, and now it's playable!

Could probably use a new bellow on the left joystick, but I'm happy enough with it to move it into the arcade now.

As for the Holes/No Holes Serial Number registry, It doesn't have holes, but I've been thus far unable to find a serial number anywhere on the cabinet. The only serial I can find is the PCB serial 061248.

Had an arcade party last night. Battlezone was a casualty. It ran for about 15 minutes and then the monitor shut off.

I then turned it back on after another 15 minutes, it ran fine for the same-ish interval, and then the monitor shut off.

I'm thinking cold solder on transistor headers. Maybe. Had something similar with our tempest a while back.

Replaced headers on the BZ deflection board, reflowed all suspect-y solder joints. Ran battlezone for an hour on its own, it was fine. Turned on the rest of the vectors in the room, and it was fine also for another hour (although Major Havoc was a little grumpy at first)

Seems to be good. When in doubt, something's intermittent, and it is good when you turn it on? Check some solder joints.

the Space Duel at work eventually formed its black screen of death gimmick. the game board simultaneously formed a catastrophic issue at the same time, but running another Gravitar in it, still the black screen thing. measuring the Video B+ pin on the neckboard I think it was something like 34V, supposed to be 180V? it wound up being the HV cage solder was all rotten. the deflection board was an Arcadeshop replacement. the HV cage will need to be capped soon whenever APAR order emerges. it was all original. it's still working now though.
