Ok, I just got the ribbon cables from Bob, I cleaned up the boards checked for bad solder joints, and now the video seems more vibrant, but WAY distorted. Could this be a video Gen board from the MCR boards? Or just the monitor needing to be capped. Is there a way to test a video board? Are there troubleshooting guides for them?

Please, I need some help!!

Here is the video from today

And this is what it used to do...

Anyone?

I am really starting to think my Video Gen board went out. I am starting to find data sheets on the chips on the video board to try and troubleshoot them. Does anyone have a MCR II video board for sale at a reasonable price, I don't even know if this is actually what is broken, and do not want to sink a great deal just to find out it was not. Shoot me some prices if have them collecting dust.

Thank you,
Reno

Um - just to be sure, do you have the video connector plugged into the right spot on the game boards? there is another connector on a different board that the plug can connect to, and I've seen people connect it to the wrong one and have image issues.

here's the one it should be on (brown wire):

I am off to work now, when I get home this evening, I will triple check it, I bought a combo board of ebay, MCR II Cpu and Video board that was used in kickman, but is the same as mine. When they arrive I will try the video board as well, unless I or someone here can figure out what is going on here with it now.

Follow the black wire that goes with the Red Green and Blue signals from the PCB to the monitor chassis. It is probably thick wire that you can see going to the white connector in that photo. Check you have continuity on this wire.

Ok, I did a continuity test and all wires are good. Then I connected to the monitor board and tested voltages and this is what I got....

Red 1.58V
Yellow 1.58V
Green 1.58V
Brown 0.00V
Blue 0.00V
Purple 0.00V
Black 1.73V
Grey 1.73V

Are these good voltages? I am now trying to find some kind of schematic telling me which wire is for what.

Ok, did best I could, here are a few photos, if you need a different one, let me know. The tan\brown connector is the gameboard connector.

first, mcr games (and i'm assuming that's what it is, since you didn't say) all have seperate, negative sync.
Looking at your cable, something looks slightly amiss. It appears you are inputting the sync to the positive sync connector, and not to the negative.

Bob Roberts has a really good write up that should help explain it all -

Here's how Midway shows the monitor connection for Spy Hunter (all other mcr games are similar).

Yes, Tron is a MCR game. This is some good info. Question is, I wonder why it would work, even if it was just for a few short days. But none the less, I have some serious troubleshooting to do. I guess I will do a recap, and switch power supply to a switching power supply with the adapter, and take it from there, but this synch is well worth looking into. I found out my vis-pro MTG1901CN monitor is the same as a WGK7300, I guess these two synch the same?

I found some info on the pinouts for the 3 sandwich boards for Tron. This one I believe is what is in question..
CPU BOARD (A084-91399-A968)
J2 - 9 pin (MONITOR)

1 - RED
2 - GND
3 - GREEN
4 - GND
5 - BLUE
6 - GND
7 - KEY
8 - /HBLNK
9 - /VBLNK

You might find that the problem is the fact that you are using a Vision Pro. MCR games are picky with the new monitors, and often work one minute and don't work the next. Find an older monitor and see if it works.

BUT - you may find that you don't need the vertical sync connected. If you don't and it is, then you'd get messed up video...

Ok, here is another video I just made after reconnecting the video cable, but I forgot to connect the audio cable.

Tron video, can see Tron but now the lines go right to left.

BTW, if I disconnect the daughterboard, I get a hiss\squeal noise, is and only a single white line in the middle of the screen, is this normal when done? Daughterboard I mean the control board that does the V pos/H posi/v size/H size/Contrast/bright

well u need to adjust the hold on your monitor to get it to stop scrolling and it looks like your board may have a ram problem to me

and dont unplug the adjustment board, thats normal tho

LyonsArcade, that is what I was adjusting, the vertical hold but maybe that is what is bad, because when I adjust it, the ever so slightest movement will cause the vertical to go crazy again (see earlier video of this problem). I try the horizontal oscillator dial and not much changes, just moves the picture like it should at a smooth, steady rate. And the board with the Ram problem you are speaking of, is it the MCR board? If so, which one has the Ram, the CPU or Video Gen board?

Can someone please tell me where I can find the Ram chip mentioned? I saved the chips that were not soldered from a CPU board that I got my Rom chips from and I have another video and super cpu board from a kickman game arriving soon. I also have a cap kit from Bob for the monitor. I will be changing my power supply to a switching power supply.
