I am just putting this out here, partly as a warning, partly to vent.

Bought a game, had to have it shipped.

NAVL quoted me a price, got prices from other carriers, they were all in the same ballpark, but because the last time I shipped a game it was left in the driveway, I decided to use NAVL because their guys brought it in the house last time.

First round, STI calls NAVL and tells them my road is not truck accessible. Funny, NAVL, RHL, Home Depot, Lowes, and the two companies who brought multiple pieces of modular houses built on the road didnt seem to have a problem.

They want to charge me $275 extra dollars to send a box truck. I say NO WAY! Forget it. They backed down.

Then they drive it to the area, but inform me if I want it, I have to bring a truck to their truck and bring it to my house.

I did this just to get the game.

Then I get a call, weeks later, STI informed NAVL they are charging a "remote area" fee of $45 more dollars. So NAVL is passing this on to me.

This is the last time I will deal wit NAVL or STI... this has been a nightmare.

You would think they would want to do everything they could to hold on to customers, in this economy, willing to still ship these games... instead of inventing ways to gouge them for money after they already quoted, and after they already delivered the game.

BTW, the final price made this the most expensive of all the prices I got... and I still had to go get my game after paying for home delivery.

For shame... to both companies.

But just think, you now have a Spy Hunter 2 in your game room!

Sorry, man, that really sucks. If you were vocal enough, they probably would have backed off of the $45 fee, but you would have had to have battled it out for a bit.

I've had a few dealing lately with business trying to tack on hidden fees lately. It appears to be a dangerous trend as other businesses are following. $45 bucks for a remote fees is totally bogus. I'd point them out the quote and web site have no mention of a remote fee. Also, be sure to mention the KLOV community will no longer do business with them.

As a side note, KFC charged me .50 to change my side item from the coupon. That's a new one. They never charged me five months ago for doing the same thing.

WHAT IS THIS WORLD COMING TO?? on my end, I had to go through a self audit for Microsoft. They put together a team called SAM (Software Assement Management) which are the Microsoft Police. Also, if we refused the edit, Microsoft stated they would take a more formal approach with the audit. I have provided the info to Microsoft but have not heard back from them. It looks like the company I work for will have to spend an additional $30k+ for additional licensing. Also, we had out Mission critical application provider monitor our system for a period of 1 week to see how many users were accessing their application. Another $50k...Cha CHING! It seems like MANY companies are looking outside the box to drum up additional revenue. Will they lose customers? Some definitely will in my book.

Sucks. I recently had a game shipped using NAVL and STI was the company that delivered it. I had no issues and everything went well, but I didn't have the issues with delivery and such either.

That fee almost seems criminal considering you were never aware of the fee going to be charged and never agreed to it. Then again I am not a lawyer so what do I know.

I've always refused to pay extra charges after the fact. That is fraud as far as I'm concerned.
I've stiffed DHL on 3 occassions, because 6+ months down the road I get an invoice in the mail for added charges. I've even called them and told them "Take me to court".

It's against the law to tack on charges after the fact as far as I'm aware, they may try to get the suckers, but if you tell them NO they can't do shit........as long as you have the initial charges/invoice on paper, to back the initial agreement.

I even got an invoice from them, over a year later for something I bought off that Yaton guy. They wanted $52 in some sort of fees. I told them to fuck their hat.

Did you pay that extra fee? You can tell that they were thinking: "People won't fight $45--maybe they would if it was $50." You gotta watch these big companies--they start to believe that their ability to print invoices equals an ability to print money... and that the little guy is so afraid of getting his credit score screwed with that they will cave.

I'd put up a stink on this one--email them about it constantly, tell the better business bureau, etc. Tacking on something after the delivery, and after a quote, is just ludicrous!

They said they had to charge my card and were just calling to make me aware of it.
I told them originally they had to do what they had to to do... but the more I think about this, the madder I am getting.

I just left a message that I dont want my card charged for something that was not in my original quote.

Let's see what they do here.

If they charge your card, dispute that portion. Simple. Just provide a copy of the contract you agreed to with your dispute and you're good as gold.

This is a classic shipping scam...

They try to jack you once they have your crap...

I'd suggest that you talk to your state AG.

This type of scam is most common among moving companies... Quote you a really cheap price, get your life's possessions all on a truck, then up the price a few $$$ before they unload.

What are you to do? Fight them?
They got all your shit.

How much did you end up paying?
NAVL used STI as shipper for 2,3 years,NAVL no longer has there own trucks, drivers.
NAVL won't take COD & credit card make very hard to do business with them.

maybe contact your credit card company and ask that they do not authorize the charge as it was not part of the original contract. At this point they're trying to take you for $45. Thing is you already have the item. It would probably take them more time, effort and money to get that $45 from you.

Thanks guys... I have actually done everything I can at this point.
I called NAVL told them I do not approve the charge, and called my card company and had them put a note on the account.

I understand NAVL's position... but this is an instance that... given the history of the situation (STI's original attempt to charge me $275 extra dollars on the delivery) that they would handle this between themselves.

Whomever's mistake this was, it was not mine. I paid what we agreed to.

It definately could be worse. I've had a shipping company try to tack on $200 once they had it on the truck. I told them they could throw it in the dumpster before I would pay that. That being said, if they tried after the fact as in your case, I'd tell them to pound sand.

Send NAVL an invoice for $50 and tell them that is your charge for having to drive your truck out to get the game.

This idea has merit. I'm sure things will get resolved with your CC dispute, but there is always small claims court. (You could also enter a counter claim for the time/money required for you to go pick up your game on your own.) Sending someone to sc court would be cost prohibitive for the company, and they wouldn't have a leg to stand on if they did go. If they are a no show, even better for you.

I have shipped thru NAVL a couple of times, but prior to their policy of no COD. Currently have a shipment and I'm noticing some strange behavior on my credit card...essentially a double charge. I have put a call into the shipping rep (not Michelle) to find out what's going on. It's bad enough their rates have gone up and not dropped since gas made its major down adjustment, but to keep biting the hand is just bs.

Sadly, I have yet to find any other logistics solution that is reliable, offers insurance and is substantially more competitive than NAVL. I like the idea of handling payment thru credit cards mainly because its a PITA to get a MO or cashier's check for payment, plus all I have to do is call in and dispute the charges.

NAVL blows. Their bookkeeping especially.

I had a game delivered COD in 2005, game was delivered and paid for in 2005. in 2007 two full years later they sent me a letter demanding payment on that delivery. WTF? I said what are you talking about, this was COD and paid for 2 years ago.. they said they audited their books and dont have record of payment so I was expected to pay it again! So needless to say, I said no and they went to the extent of sending collections goons after me. Thankfully one letter from my lawyer calmed that down but I could not believe the stupidity on their part to not simply admit their mistakes.

I agree NAVL sucks big time, I havnt used them since 05 nd will never again, they tore the whole bottom of the only dedicated us vs them prototype!
I got it delivered and was handed a box of wood which was the bottom of my game, pretty funny how NAVL picked up the game and NAVL delivered the game but they blammed STI for damaging it! They made me even pay for the shipping charges or they were gonna send it back to the ebay seller who did nothing wrong! I payed for it by check took the game and immedietly stopped payment on the check so they couldn't cas it! It took 6 months to get payed by STI and NAVL washed there hands of the whole thing! Now you can't even put games on a pallet anymore, the damaged games on pallets I can't imagine what there gonna do to games now!
I know of them destroying 2 varkons a journey a EDOT and my proto! They are a joke and just getting worse, I'm using DTI and waiting on my first cross country shipment, my dedicated zoo keeper, at least they require a pallet and they fully insured it! I will keep you all posted on them! NAVL sucks stay away, oh never ask for there blanket wrap service either, they will charge you and do nothing, not 1 blanket or cardboard or bubble wrap nothing!

STI tried to charge me extra for a delivery.
I set up delivery for after 3:00pm and they showed up before 2:00pm,when I wasn't home.
I get a call from NAVL that STI is charging an extra fee because they have to redeliver.
I told NAVL that STI's dispatcher said he would note on delivery paperwork to deliver after 3:00 pm,he knew I couldn't be home before 3:00pm and never told me they couldn't guarantee the delivery time to be after 3:00pm.
I told NAVL that if the dispatcher had told me this I would have gotten off work early to be home for the delivery.
The next attempt at delivery I made sure I got off early and still they came earlier than the scheduled time. It was to be delivered after 12:00pm
and they called me at 11:30am saying they were at my house.
Luckily it was delivered by NAVL drivers and they waited for me.
I told them about the charge STI was trying to get out of me and they said don't pay it, but dispute it.
I never heard from NAVL again.
