I'm sure STI is contracting out their work in different parts of the country. But I've had nothing but problems every time I use them. That's who most everyone uses and why I won't participate in arranging shipping when I sell a game.

The last 5 or 6 times I used them I had to deal with this fat bastard truck driver. Every time except the last I ended up having to drive the games to where he parked his truck----about 45 miles one way. And yes, he can get on my street in a semi and turn around without a problem.

The last time, which was about 5 years ago, I told him he would have to come and get them because I didn't have the time to come to him. He complained about being over on hours, couldn't get the truck in my neighborhood (which he had never seen) blah...blah...blah. I told him he was coming to me because he was getting paid to do it and I've shipped a bunch of games on 18 wheelers. And he was the only one to cry about having to pick the games up. It was finally resolved and he came and got them.

More recently, I sold 2 games to a guy in California back in April. He was supposed to handle all the shipping details but these games have not been picked up yet. I started getting irritated with him about it a couple of weeks ago. I told him last week that he had to get shipment arranged and these picked up by the end of this week....with today being the last day. I am off from work and could meet the truck any time or day this week.

But just my luck, they arrange shipment with STI:

STI calls me Monday and I missed the call. I tried to call them back around 3pm and couldn't get a live person to talk to. I called back Tuesday morning and ended up having to leave a message.

I got a return call from a Linda and was told that they would pick the games up Thursday between 11am and 3pm. And they would call at least an hour in advance to let me know they were on their way. That was fine with me and I arranged to be here .I had them wrapped up and ready to go

At 4pm yesterday I started calling STI because nobody had showed up and I hadn't received a call from them like I should have. Of course, I couldn't get a live person to talk to...."just leave a message and we'll call you back".

So, first thing this morning I'm calling STI again and having to leave a message. Linda calls me back an hour later and says they have rescheduled for Monday. I wonder if they were even going to call and let me know that? Anyway, it is absolutely unacceptable to leave me here waiting on a scheduled pickup and a company not even having the courtesy to make a phone call saying they can't make it. I said, this was BS and about what I expected as I've dealt wth this same crap from them many times before.

Of course she claims she is just the 'dispatcher' and she would let the 'scheduler' know. I told her to let them know that they would have to arrange to bere here Monday after 5:30pm. She got real quiet for a minute and I said, "hold on, this is on you guys now. You had the shipping details last week and you've had all of this week to make this pickup and haven't come through. I have to work for a living and you can arrange their schedule around me now".

Sorry, just felt like I needed to rant.

I can't say this had anything to do with the shipping industry, but I had a similar issue with no call re-scheduling with AT&T. At my older apartment I signed up for AT&T U-Verse, it took them 4 weeks to get me up and running. It was complete bullshit* because it all started around the idea that I was not getting a strong enough signal inside the apartment for the box. Or at least that is what the first technician said, so he called the dispatcher to get someone else out there to work on the box outside. The first technician left, the second technician arrived...but he was talking real loud on his cell phone and all he did was come and open the box outside, hook up one of their signal testers, he closed the box and then left without even bother to come knock on my door and say something. First thing I did was I called AT&T and had took several minutes getting redirected to someone who was close to the dispatcher or whatever. They told me "It's not his job to communicate to the customer, he was just sent in to work on the box outside." I told them he didn't do anything but test some dam wires and then leave with his head up his ass on the phone and what were they going to do about this...........anyways I worked out a time to re-schedule it like 2-3 times with a few no shows, one time their website was being weird and said my next appointment wouldn't be until Dec 12th, 2036................................................................So I certainly called them about that....

Anyways, about 4 weeks later I finally get 2 very cool technicians that rolled up at my door at the same time. They went outside to the box, crossed a few wires, and then setup my cable and internet very smoothly. They even noticed my older SNES lying around and stayed a little while longer to play Mortal Kombat.....lol

Since I've started working with a freight company to move pinball and arcade machines for people (see sig), I've come to see where issues crop up with these companies that schedule pickups and shipping. For most of these companies, they receive a quote request and it's up to someone to generate the quote, secure the payment info, schedule the pickup, and then follow through with service beyond that point.

I run quotes for people and then pass the info along to the shippers. For the most part they're excellent and they've even done some same-day pickups for people. A couple of times, however, I've had someone sit on the info and let a day or two go without contacting the client. It's only happened a couple of times, like I said, but it's a bummer that if one person slacks off that there's not someone to scoop up the info and run with it.

By the way, shoot me a typical info on a shipment and I'll run some quotes. I'm about 99.9% sure I can get you cheaper shipping with better service...

Yeah, I just had a problem with AT&T Uverse as well. I signed up but their earliest appointment available for installation would be 2 months later.

And 2 months later, the day for them to be here was this past Tuesday. But they called Monday and said there was an engineering problem in the area and they would have to reschedule me. I haven't heard anything back yet.
