Steve Wiebe this weekend @ the 1up (Denver)

I mean.. don't get me wrong but saying the guy is famous for being in 'King of Kong' is almost the same as the fame those idiots on 'Jersey Shore' have. I love arcades..I love collecting and working on my games..I love interacting with people in the hobby. I just think that at this point..after 30yrs... being known for beating a game by playing obsessively.. is just a bit lame.

Just to be clear..since forums can't accurately display emotion.... I say all this with humor and some bewilderment..not ay sort of malice. ;)

Wiebe's high score was 757,500. My buddy Kevin put up a high score on the 1up board on Frogger of 72,040 with only 3 "men" instead of Twin Galaxies' 5 "men" allowance.

Ben, I think the 757k score was from the game before he hit the kill screen. I unfortunately had to leave when he was around 600k into his last game.

And yes, I had a really good Frogger game. Thanks for sharing. :) I love that barcade so much. I wonder if they'd change the dip switch settings for me to have a run at a better Twin Galaxies record.

yeah. i got there right after he killscreened, and i think the score was 872 or 882k, i can't remember off the top of my head. he had a few scores on there. it was a red DK.

off the topic of DK, he's a totally cool guy in person. very down to earth. talked some baseball with him. on the topic of games, he said he doesn't really have any other records he's going for, and he still has the same DK in his garage. he said he hasn't thought about getting any other games...

i did ask him about CAX though. he mentioned that he was there back when king of kong was being done, but hasn't been there since. i kinda get the feeling he wouldn't really want to go just cause he'd be put on the spot the whole weekend, and not really get to just hang out and play games.

the one question i did want to ask him, though which i totally forgot, was whether or not brian kuh is a douche in real life, or if he just plays one on tv.

Damn, I'm bummed I missed it. I'm guessing he was just going for a kill screen and not an actual high score?

Although I have not met that guy, I have to believe that Kuh is definitely a total douche in real life. You can't fake that type of douchebaggery, and if he could he should have been an actor and not in banking.

Glad to hear the event went well. Does anyone have any pics? I am really looking forward to going there the next time I am in CO.

I only have a random picture of him playing (from behind him) and then the picture I took with him. Nothing really worth sharing. There was a guy with a professional looking camera there, but I haven't seen anything else posted from the event unfortunately.
