Steve Ritchie joins Stern!!

BTW, JP:LW is a great, underrated pin. A few pin-fanatic friends who have come over recently to play mine (got it NIB) *really* like it.

Did you get it NIB back when it came out, or was it a recent warehouse find or something? Just curious. :)

In my opinion, Steve's most fun game is Spider-Man, so I'm excited to see what he can produce working with Stern again.

Hmmm... strange... I just read a post that is 180 degrees opposite of this opinion.

Personally... I don't care. I'll never have the dough to buy a NIB Stern and it'll be at least 10-15 years before prices come down enough on a Stern machine to where I can afford it.

Not sure what your range would be, but there are some great Sterns in the 1500-2000 range including Ripley's, Monopoly and T3.

Stern's facebook shit is ridiculous and childish and unprofessional IMO. They are trying to be cool and hip or something, but it just makes them look stupid.

i don't seed it that way. it's 2011...facebook has a huge following and if STERN can reach more people and get more folks interested in pinball with that marketing technique, then i say more power to 'em.

a lot cheaper than taking out ads...and whatever they want to put out there can be seen instantaneously.

I agree Facebook is great for them, but the way they go about posting things isn't...

If he's not working on Tron and it's not released in April, I'm unfriending them on facebook. Don't try to stop me.

lmao.

oh, you mean the teases and stuff? yeah, i can see where some people would be turned off by that. personally, i enjoy it...certainly gets folks gossiping on the message boards. :)

Most Stern values drop like a rock!

Not the post-2003 games. 8 years later, TSPP is still in the 3k range. Spidey is climbing toward 4k, and Black Spidey is selling for 7k!!! POTC, Family Guy, LOTR, Batman are all holding in the 3k range. Elvis even seems like it's coming back up in value. Too early to tell on Iron Man and Avatar, when IM's pop up for sale at around $3600, 3700 they get purchased quickly. The only post 2003 games that have dropped like a rock are WPT, 24, CSI, WOF ...basically the ones w/ "meh" themes, or in the case of WOF - unfinished code. IJ4 can still for a decent price, even though it blows...just based on theme.

I played LOTR again a few nights ago. I was saving for Medieval Madness but I have decided to ditch that and just find a LOTR. That game is good, plus I know I can get it much much cheaper. Its the logical thing to do IMHO.

I don't like all Stern pins but the few I do like are super awesome. Hopefully LOTR will be arriving on my birthday in May :)

Wade just likes to drop in and throw darts at Stern, but many times it's unfounded...

Maybe so? I dunno, Stern seems very hit or miss with their licenses and quality. It seems like it's one out of every few games that really seem exciting. And the quality is often a disappointment. I'll admit that they have been doing a little better in the past 10 years, are more of them seem to be holding their values. But 24, WPT, WOF, NBA, Buck Hunter, Harley, Batman, Elvis, (I won't even start naming the stinkers earlier than that...) man it's hard to get excited about most of those games. Family guy doesn't have the cheapness all over it that a lot of Stern's have, I think TSPP is an awesome game, I even like Ripleys and RCT (neither are bad games IMO), I've enjoyed many long games on Sopranos, etc. So I'm not totally down on Stern.

Anyway, I used to get excited for Stern news, but after so many disappointments I just stopped caring. Overall, I'm glad they're still there and making pins, but I try never to get my hopes up, even when they pick a decent license.

nba? i've heard that one is pretty rare and pretty expensive. have i been mislead? there's one near me that looks AWESOME, but i don't have the cash for it right now.....about to lay out some money on your favorite game, RFM. ;)

All my personal opinion:
NBA had a low run and it was a piss poor seller and even worse earner (according to my OP friend).
I've played it, and it's truly one of those machines people like or dislike no in between. I think it's kind of a turd honestly. Rarity on a game like that with all due respect shouldn't be a price driver. Look at Wheel of Fortune. Low production run, software is unfinished but still fun and can be had "typically" for ~$2000.

If you like it go for it - that's what makes the world cool is the indifference!
As far as Wade goes - man you have some odd taste :)
Seriously TSPP is a great game but RBION is ok and RCT is terribly boring in my opinion. BTDK is really an fun game especially with the upgraded software.
Stern has released some real shitters. In fact they've released more shitters than winners by a long shot. But it's the anticipation of the next machine that keeps me hoping Stern will rise again. FWIW I also think FG is a B class game.
BTW METAHUGH get that LOTR! Freaking LOVE mine.

thanks for the info on the NBA......i'm one of the twelve people on planet earth that actually like nba fastbreak, so i think STERN's NBA title may be up my alley too (i've actually never played it). again, i'm waaaaaaaaaaaaay in debt right now over a RFM and my "stash" for a NIB TRON.....so i ain't gonna be buying anything else anytime soon.

as for wheel............unfinished software? seriously? i'm not a STERN expert by any means, but that's the first i've heard of that. i played the thing and i wouldnt buy it no matter how much more finished the software became.....just ain't my cup of tea. but i DO like STERN's.......POTC, LOTR, Ripley's, Roller Coaster Tycoon (more for my kids than me), soprano's, spidey, and hell i even like indiana jones (even though it sucks balls compared to the original).

The latest rumor is that Steve Ritchie will be doing a pinball machine based on the highly popular web site Facebook...and movie The Social Network....
