Steve Ritchie joins Stern!!

Forgive my lack of pin designer job history, but has Steve Ritchie ever worked for/with Stern?

Per the release:

Ritchie had previously been contracted by Stern Pinball in 2001 to design eight machines including Elvis, Spider-Man and Terminator 3.

Oh man - you've missed some history there. Yes he did and he also didn't have much positive to say.

Slight OT - I wonder if it's too late for Stern to ask him for help on TRON. Gawd that'd be just awesome to have his hand in that game.

Stern's facebook shit is ridiculous and childish and unprofessional IMO. They are trying to be cool and hip or something, but it just makes them look stupid.

Hmmm... strange... I just read a post that is 180 degrees opposite of this opinion.

Personally... I don't care. I'll never have the dough to buy a NIB Stern and it'll be at least 10-15 years before prices come down enough on a Stern machine to where I can afford it.

Ya NIB is pricey, I "can" afford one, just not sure I want to blow that much cash. I could easily get 2 or 3 nice WPC pins instead of a NIB...

Certainly good news!

Now we just need Python doing the art
and Chris G doing sound & music.

I thought that Steve worked either contract or full time and that it didn't go well, but I couldn't remember.

One of the first thoughts I had on this was would Steve be in on TRON.

I guess Stern outbid Jersey Jack to get Steve?

Still gotta see what comes of this. But I'm encouraged for the state of pinball in general by this, and everything that's been happening in the past few months.

Dunno if JJP tried to get Steve. OTOH, I'd be totally psyched if they signed up John Popadiuk for an upcoming pin. (I know, getting ahead of things as JJP has to still release their first pin, but they seem to have a good line-up of experienced/talented pin people, and a relevant manufacturing infrastructure in place.) IMO, JP>>SR.

BTW, JP:LW is a great, underrated pin. A few pin-fanatic friends who have come over recently to play mine (got it NIB) *really* like it. Plus, it is an excellent tourney pin, with tough modes, balanced scoring, and an easy switch to tournament mode just by holding the flipper button in when starting a game. (No need to rummage around the settings menus.)

For a few years, Stern was contracting Pat Lawlor (PLD -Pat Lawlor Design) and Steve (SRP - Steve Ritchie Productions) to design games....that's why those games also had those guys' logos on them. Nordmann (POTC, WOF) & Gomez (LOTR, Sorpanos, Batman) worked in house. Ever since the mass layoffs/restructuring, John Borg has been the in house designer. Hopefully this news of Steve working in house means that 2010 went well enough financially that they can afford to amp things up a little. Steve's games have generally been very successful for Stern - Spider-Man's constant re-running and price-climbing amongst collectors is testament to what Steve's talent + hot license can do.
