Stern TRANSFORMERS pin coming

Personally... I like all 4 of those glasses better than the Tron "photoshop" crap... how about a little ORIGINALITY? Demoman is the worst of the bunch followed by Shadow... but even they are better than Tron... or Rolling Stone... or...

Doing art like they did in the 90's makes the games look, well, older. Nobody does art that way anymore, the tools/computers have made huge leaps and bounds from that time period. You're right, it's not original, but original does not always equal great. Go look at the movie posters for those games and then look at the art they used...is it better? Regardless of whether it's hand drawn or photoshopped, neither one ages particularly well when it's done on a current movie or tv show.

I like the Williams art on their games back then (it was, for the most part, way better than other games of that era), but by the same token I wouldn't want to buy a new game that had the same art style...like I wouldn't want the new Star Trek game (rumored) to look like the st:tng I have, I'd want it to have a more modern look. But that's just my personal taste. I'm not saying Stern's art is awesome or anything (pretty hit and miss) but I do like the fact that the games look modernish.

How so? The Emerald City version of WoZ is limited too, and it's going to be over $7500 plus shipping and you're looking at over $8000 for a pin....fuck that noise.
What they should be doing, is just offering the "Pro" as a "Basic" model, screw this Limited Edition garbage...

Obviously we will only know in time but my understanding is the gameplay between the Emerald City edition and the regular edition of WOZ is the same, the only difference is the Limited WOZ will have real Emeralds and a few other minor differences. The LE Sterns now have different artwork and most alarmingly more inserts and gameplay features. I liked it better when the LE versions were only cosmetic differences.

I couldn't disagree with you more Taylor. I feel the newer "translite" type backglasses that use photoshopped art look cheesy and cheap. I hated it when they started doing it back in the late 80's (Raven, Secret Service, etc)... and I hate it now.

It doesn't look more modern... it looks... cheap.

Current movie posters and dvd's look cheap? As that's where the art came from. I'm not saying that Stern's art is that great, but it's not that terrible. :)

I don't want a movie poster or DVD cover on my pinball back glass..

Movies and DVD's are cheap... a pinball machine is not.

Stern back glasses look cheaply made... and cheapens the whole package IMHO.

Well, here are some Stern painted ones....they don't always use photos of actors. WPT is fucking terrible, though...heh.

Surely you are joking!

Just goes to show that there is no accounting for taste.

You go boy... enjoy your corporate photoshopped garbage...

...I'll be over here enjoying the originality and and uniqueness of the rest.

PS: I'd put my Xenon back glass up against Tron any day...

Here is my take on the whole WOZ thing. Pre-orders are costing 6500. There is no difference in gameplay or rules or anything. The first 1000 are only going to have some blings just like stated above.
So JJP plans on running these for 3 years producing 10K of them for the entire planet. That is what he stated in his speaches. No operator is going to be buying them at 7500 (non-preorder price). There is just no way, but maybe there will be a select rich few ops that will.
So now 2-3 years later if jack is still running these there are going to be a ton of HUO ones for sale. Ops are not going to buy them at 7500. The market is going to be flooded with HUO regular run WOZs and you will have no problem getting one at a cheaper price. I doubt people will care if they have the 1st 1000 with real gems in them or not. JMHO.

There is just something wrong with a $5K+ pin's backglass looking pretty much EXACTLY like the freakin' DVD cover...

Plus i've seen the center image of the two reaching upward on other general schwag.

I can't really fault Stern completely ... I am sure Disney had it's say... but at the same time I'm guessing ole Stern didn't bitch too much... which is a shame.

But to each his/her own.

Yes, "original" must = better, right?

This is for you and your enjoyment:

And ?

Not the best "design" ... but at least it's not some generic shop-job that you can see on McDonalds Happy Meal cups.

EDIT: I'm not a fan of movie tie-in themes myself... not from back in the Demo Days... not Now with Tron or Avatar. I'd rather see something original frankly. But then that may be the reason I seem to gravitate toward 1980 era Bally pins...

i love it. that image is THE iconic image from the film. that's the image i was hoping for on the backglass and thankfully that's the one they used.

My point is simple. Just because the translight art might be "original" and "unique" and not a "photoshop job" doesn't mean it will be good or even better than what we got.

Also, keep in mind the translite is 3D. The 3D image was already created for the Blu-Ray cover, so it makes sense that Stern was given those elements from Disney. Avatar's is also 3D...so - when you see them in person, they're much more impressive than the versions you're seeing online.

Friz - I find it funny that you get all grumpy in so many Stern threads....I highly doubt you'd buy a new pinball anyway - so it's strange that you get so passionate about them. ...of course, correct me if I'm wrong if you've got money down on Wizard of Oz. It's got original artwork, hand-painted on canvas! :)
