Stern TRANSFORMERS pin coming

knew about transformers for a while now. what i don't know is what S.R. is doing. heard it was a rock music based pin and they are shooting for a Dec 2011 release date.

The pin may not be production timeline based on the movie, but we all know that it will be littered with movie stuff only from the 3 movies of now, and per standard Stern, the backglass will just be stuff from the DVD covers blown up...

I love transformers, but I'm not impressed with what Stern does with their art enough to want to buy a NIB from them. The art on Tron sucks, especially the backglass. License or not, take the art in a direction that doesn't scream "Copy and Paste" please...

I swear, there are more "talking points" in pinball critique than on Fox News! Just because it's an original hand painted composition doesn't automatically make it GOOD art. :)

Comparing apples and nutsacks. Like I said, Transformers has been around since the 80's. It's still popular. There's no such thing as "stale" with that license. It's iconic.

Are you kidding? Michael Bay has beat that franchise into a bloody, annoying, boring, tedious, redundant, unoriginal, regurgitated, PULP.

I'd sooner listen to a stupid song by the Trashmen for 45 minutes straight. ; )

Transformers was never high art. Watch the original show. It's a fucking retarded mess. It's a toy commercial!!! ...but it's a retarded mess that people like. We love robots that turn into shit and beat each other up. Arguing the merits of the franchise is irrelevant. It's popular and has made money for almost 30 years.

ICONIC.

Fact.

End of story.

If a transformers pin is in the works, I hope they wait until next year to release it...I can't afford any more pins this year after buying a TRON LE. if transformers is next year's summer release, there's an outside shot I may be able to snag one.

It'll be around. You don't have to buy a new one.

I think TF is one of those series that you just have to be thankful it was made into a movie in the first place. The transformation effect you see in the movies, IMO, is awesome. And how they can do a frame by frame in so many places in the movies simply rocks.

If you want the movies to be visually stunning AND have flawless plots, it won't happen with this kind of series.

The only thing that bothered me was they made Bumblebee a Camaro and not a Vee Dub. Although I do enjoy watching BB in the movies bc my favorite color is yellow and I was raised a bowtie fan, I still think they should have kept him a Vee Dub for the millions of dedicated TF fans around the globe. You don't just say "well GM's gonna give us this car for the movie, we'll just use that". If you're gonna go down that road, then why isn't Optimus Prime a Yukon? Lame move, Bay.

Why a Camaro? Well, I guess money talks. GM ponied up quite a bit to feature their cars in that film. Did you happen to notice the Cadillac prototype?

Characters:

Bumblebee: Camaro coupe
Ironhide: GMC Top Kick Duramax Diesel
Ratchet: Hummer H2
Jazz: Pontiac Solstice

Product placement$. Can't do anything with out them these days it seems.

Just the idea of Optimus Prime directing my shots gives me a nerdgasm.

I don't know what type of deal they had with GM, but I do know that they can't make another Bumblebee VW Beetle, because VW doesn't want to be associated with "fighting and war" etc..Retarded or not, I still prefer the G1 transformers designs, as the robots don't look like a jumbled mess like they do in the "BayFormer" movies. Since Stern is feeling the heat from Jersey Jack, it will be interesting how many toys/gimmicks they will allow on this pin..Oh yeah, the rumor for the new Steve Ritchie game is AC/DC...

That's my plan. I refuse to buy NIB unless I have played it first. The fact that the LE is so limited is one of the worst business decisions EVER in the history of pinball.

It needs to be available ongoing at any time during the production run. I plan on buying a nice HUO model in the future IF I like the game.

Agree, Metahugh. The LE is an attractive buy (feature wise). By limiting the production, they are cutting themselves off to needed revenue. Buyers (not locations, but home collectors) in most cases cant justify the Pro over the LE so they may lose sales there, while the collector seeks LE in after market, that increases the LE value. Stern is missing out on alot of revenue there.

The contrast between the Pro and the LE is huge right now. Case in point - Pros have been pegged at 3800 - 4600 for years now, but whats on those games have dropped significantly. Put a TRS / IM / BBH / Avatar next to a SM and you see the decrease in weight / heft / feel - its alot less. Fortunately, the play hasnt changed, but the quality has. We understand Inflation / economy is a factor, but Stern hesitated to raise prices so just Pro'd it (and classic'd it, that failed), and decided the way to get people to accept paying up is an LE.

What was failed to be factored is if someone that is going to spend 4k+ for a Pin, its "easy" to justify paying up to the 6k level for something better. but again, because Stern is limiting the run, they lose out.

This LE strategy CAN and WILL hurt them once WOZ is released. For 6k+ the buyer gets an upscaled game, no other choice, the "new" pin price point is accepted. While a good run may sell 3k +, Stern can only sell 400 on the LE runs, and the Pros will not sell as well.

How so? The Emerald City version of WoZ is limited too, and it's going to be over $7500 plus shipping and you're looking at over $8000 for a pin....fuck that noise.
What they should be doing, is just offering the "Pro" as a "Basic" model, screw this Limited Edition garbage...

Personally... I like all 4 of those glasses better than the Tron "photoshop" crap... how about a little ORIGINALITY? Demoman is the worst of the bunch followed by Shadow... but even they are better than Tron... or Rolling Stone... or...

I think the budget of the transformers movies is spent like this:
200 million special effects and blowing stuff up
10k for 2 months of a writers time

:)

The movies are ok, not great, but they're getting better as they go because my expectations couldn't be lower, lol.

Yeah... Transformers Movie (the first one) was OK... I enjoyed it for what it was... but damn, Transformers 2 was a train-wreck. The plot was bad... the acting was bad (thankfully that hack Megan Fox isn't in part 3... too bad LaDouche still is)... it just sucked. I tried watching it a 2nd time (at home rather than the theater) and it just firmed my opinion that the movie blew. 4/10 at best and 95% of the 4 points I give it was due to the SFX.

I agree. All that Williams stuff is painted art, which puts it way beyond anything Stern has done in a long time. Look at CSI or Sopranos to see typical Stern artwork. Its lifted right off of promotional materials.

I think 24 takes the prize though. It is laughably horrible.
