I bought some Stern replacement siderails that have the flipper button protection, as the cabinet on my LOTR is pretty worn in that area.

Are the originals on with tape AND screws, or is it just the screws holding them on? The replacements do not have tape, and Rick at BAA said they use screws only.

Just want to know what I am in for before I get into it.

Also, is there a specific screw to use for the replacements? There are more holes than the originals (obviously because of the flipper area) and I want to get the correct screws.

Thanks in advance :)

Got answer via RGP -

For future searchers:

These are held on only by screws. No tape on the newer Stern siderails. Screws are not included but may not be needed since the flipper portion sits pretty flat for home enviornment and may not need the extra screws.

Update

Got side 1 installed. Ran into a bit of trouble, but worked through it. The hole closest to the lockdown bar was a tad too small for the bolt that was in there originally.

I ran a deburring tool through it and that solved that problem.

I think it looks alot better. They don't cover all the wear that was on my game, but I like the look. Took about 10 min to do the one side with the need to open up the hole a bit. As others indicated, no tape. All I needed was a phillips screwdriver, 3/8" wrench (for the back bolt) and 11mm wrench (for the front bolt), and a bit of patience.

Will do the other side tomorrow, as I had other things to attend to.

Right side done this morning. Had more trouble with holes lining up on this side but worked through it :)

I did not put screws in the holes by the flipper buttons on either side for a few reasons.

1) I did not have the correct screws
2) I did not want to drill more holes in the cabinet
3) The rails sit quite flat to the side of the cabinet so I think in a home enviornment they will be fine.

Hope this helps some other who is looking to change out Stern siderails :)
