Does anyone have any info on how to convert a Stern Scramble to use a switcher PS? I'm reasonably sure the linear power supply in this cabinet is shot and it's been modded so many times I'm not really looking to mess with it.

Pickup AC power to operate the switcher from the primary side of the game's cabinet power transformer.

The junction of wires 1 and 3 from the primary of the transformer are one side of the AC power line. The junction of wires 2 and 4 are the other side of the AC power line.

As much as I loathe ordering from AS... I just ordered a switcher kit. It's just much more "sano"...

Damnit. I email Steve @ AS about ordering one of his switcher kits (requiring me to actually swallow my pride and order from someone I'd much rather not) only to be told they accept VISA/MC/DISCOVER only... no paypal... no check option. What that means is that I have to CALL them and TALK to someone I'd rather not talk to OR email my credit card info over via email. Well, I won't email the info... and I am not much interested in TALKING to anyone there... so I am back to square one.

Does anyone know where I could pick up a blank PCB like the one attached to the switcher in this photo.... in order to create my own? I'd love to find one that just had the pins and the parts to attach to the switcher allowing end-users to create their own circuits to each... but I am likely asking too much there.

I'd rather not hack a switcher in... but if I have to I have to. Perhaps I can find a mate for the original power connector in the stern machine?

wont be till l8r but i will check for you. i assume you've had problems with as? Ive bought from there a couple times with no problems, and even got it shipped fast.

Bob Roberts has peel away .156 headers like that for $1 for 24 pins, looks like you only need around 10. He also has spade lugs to attach to the power supply $1 for 10 of them I think.

Add a little bit of lamp wire (zip wire) and you can build an analog to that board for under $3 in parts (plus shipping). And then you still haven't hacked the original wiring in the cab.

I just ordered some parts from Bob including a few of what you suggested...

Thanks.

I don't understand your worries. You now have the connector requirements, just hack up the already hacked wiring harness to a switcher. Why is this so hard for a guy who has done a tube swap for a Star Wars Cockpit???

The harness is complete... it was actually the AC connector side that was already hacked to the linear PS in there. I want to hook it to a switcher without hacking the DC side connector... no worries... I picked up the necessary parts from B. Roberts...

Welp, if you have a working PS, I may be interested.

I think I have one.

AS is the only vendor of that little board, and they won't sell you just that little board.

Frizz, I'm not for sure which one Scramble uses......but I still have this one...

Yes, that is the correct ps.

I think Mark Spaeth makes some of those little circuit boards for the power supplies.

Mark's only works with an ATX ps.

As I am building this harness I notice that the original PS has both a +12 and an UNREGULATED +12. Would it be OK to hook both these up to the (what I assume is a regulated) +12 output of a switcher?

My guess is YES, but I figured I better check.

Yes that would be ok.
