So I've purchased 4 new Stern machines over the last couple years. All of them had issues straight out of the box.

-) Metallica Premium - Snake jaw screws had fallen out and the jaw was stuck open, the switch was loose, and the ball would just sit in the mouth.

-) Star Wars Premium - The screws that keep the drop targets secure were loose, causing the targets to not pop up and lock in place. The machine kept trying over an over until it just gave up.

-) Guardians Of The Galaxy Premium - The ball would launch way too hard and leave the playfield and get stuck in the top right corner. When the ball enters the "Rocket Kick," Rocket is supposed to move like he's firing his gun but they assembled the assembly incorrectly and he was stuck.

-) Batman '66 Premium - The screw that keeps the bottom of the turntable secure was loose, causing it to sit too low. This resulted in the optos not being able to sense what position the table was in and it eventually stopped rotating. Had a message that says "Too many errors." Also had two screws come loose from the pads at the ends of the ramps and were sitting under the playfiled.

Got all the issues fixed but I mean, come on. There's no reason for this. It's like they just finger-tighten certain screws, while other ones are torqued down. Just wanted to vent. When you pay $7500 for something, you expect it to be issue free for a while at least. It's obvious to me that they don't play the machines after assembly. There's no way. Not just because of the issues I listed above, but there are no dimples in the playfield that all these new Stern games have. Even after one play, the playfield is covered in dimples.

You forgot to add #humblebrag.

Just playing my dude, glad they all got sorted!

Frustrating for sure. I've been, relatively lucky, with NIB stuff.

Do you take delivery and setup yourself or have someone do it?

I unbox and setup on my own and you do need to be super diligent about walking through each time and tightening up stuff and making adjustments.

I am no stern apologist but I'm betting that Williams/Bally was no better back in the day.

I do all my own unboxing and setup. I always check for loose hardware in the box or the bottom of the cabinet and I give everything a good look over but it's hard to catch everything.

A friend bought an Iron Maiden and it came out of the box with no outhole trough assembly!

Now that's crazy. Proves without a doubt they don't test the machines or even give them a decent look over before sending them out.

@Zenomorp Did you have to fix all the issues yourself? Which is your favorite game to play not counting Batman '66?

A friend of mine had a Star Trek premium and the punch it button leds didn't work We finally figured out the harness was installed backwards. Which of course blew the pcb for the lights too.

Yes. All myself. They weren't hard to figure out. Just disappointed. I'd have to say 'Tallica, but I'm a little biased. Here are some pics of the Batman issue. The screw that holds up the turntable was loose and was allowing the table to sit too low for the opto's to register...

Star Wars pro had an optic not working right out of the box. Ended up being a wire not fully inserted in a connector. Took some time to track it down.

Metallica had one of the coil assembly under the playfield come lose and was literally hanging there after about 200 plays. .

side note on Williams quality back in the day.

I bought a Funhouse NIB. My first NIB pin for my route. It blew a fuse whenever the left flipper button was pressed. The problem was the leads on the EOS switch we soldered together from the factory. D'oh!

Yup, bought star wars premium and ghostbusters brand new from them. Upon delivery, star wars left back ramp opto boards bad, 3 cracked solder joints, playfield looks like a golf ball after 10 plays with dimples all over, right launch ramp gate stuck open due to over tightened and dry clamp, translite taped wrong, all artwork is crooked slightly. It was definitely a Friday built game for sure. Ghostbusters balls were chipped and knicked to crap out of the box, but thus far everything looks good on it. Took 4 months to get new opto boards and a hold of someone at stern. I have them next to my William's and Jersey jack pins and without a doubt there's a HUGE quality difference with sterns being crap.

That escalated quickly! I would advise against red Loctite, as it sometimes needs heat to be removed. Lots of plastic parts around that screw...

I usually use blue, and if blue can't hold I resort to red.

I knew your comment would be about the red loctite before I finished scrolling down, lol. Kroil works well without heat.
