Hey,

I am new to the pinball restoration process, so I'd like to apologize upfront for any noob-questions. I am helping a friend with his Freefall pin, he says it needs a mother board, then all should be complete. Are mobo's universal on Sterns or is there a specific one needed for this?

I have tried doing research on the subject, but there is not much information (that I have been able to find) regarding the Freefall.

If you go here:
www.ipdb.org
and search for your pin. It will give you some background info. Then go to:
http://www.pinrepair.com/bally/index.htm

That is the info for your game. It will at the very least give you an idea of what to expect and what the game is made of. Then you can post back here once you can start to break down the problems more specifically. There are a ton of people here who know their crap and are very willing to help. Welcome to the forum and to pins in general.

Any Stern MPU-200 will work in that machine but you will have to get the Freefall Eproms put in it.
Is he missing the board entirely or does the one he has not work? If the latter, have him contact Tom Callahan at [email protected] to get it repaired and rebuilt. He has a quick turn around and it will be better than new.

I have a stern freefall. If you are missing the mpu, just put in an altek mpu and be done with it. All of the new type boards will work in this game. The main issues that I had with my mpu were the eprom sockets and the harness from the mpu to the sound board.

IIRC you can also use a Bally MPU as long as that game doesn't need the second 5101 chip.
