I stumbled upon a Stern cocktail with very worn CPs for Astro Invader. It was complete, except for the glass top and underlay.

I opened it up once I got it home and discovered it had a The End PCB. It was incredibly dirty, so I pulled the PCB, power supply, power brick/harness, and monitor.

I have done searches on this forum and YouTube. Not a lot of restoration videos for Stern Cocktails. Seems the Midway/Bally and Atari cabinets dominate the market for cocktails.

So here are my questions:

1. Any chance The End was put in the cabinet with Astro Invader CPs in the factory as the CPs for both games have identical controls. I just wondered if they just had extra or left over Astro Invader cabinets and put The End in it to save money.

2. Do these cocktails have a serial number on the cabinet anywhere? Where?

3. For Astro Invader and The End, was the glass art screen printed or an underlay? I don't see many of the usually art companies with Stern underlays for sale. I think I have seen Berzerk and maybe that is it.

4. How would one go about getting an underlay? I assume someone with one would have to scan one and I use the image to reproduce it.

5. Does the glass simply rest on the wood top? My cabinet looks like there may have been some form of cushioning (foam strip?). I would appreciate photos, if anyone can grab those.

I posted in the WTB section looking for glass clips and a source for the glass, in case anyone can help.

Thank you.

Different pinouts for Astro Invader and the End (which is classic Konami pinout) so not a direct swap.

Not sure about serials on Stern tables. On the uprights it was physically stamped into the wood on the front and/or side.

Glass looks to be available here (first search return after: stern cocktail glass). https://absolutepinball.com/shop/stern-tabletop-cocktail-arcade-game-tempered-glass-top/

I believe that those cocktables were screenprinted on the glass. Don't think there are repros available for an AI cocktable, might need to go custom and make your own, either recreate it from pics or your own design.

Good luck.

Thanks! The idea of creating my own underlay seems like a decent option. Thanks for the lead on a replacement glass!

I had to part out a ruined Stern cocktail last year, I was never sure which game it was originally, it was pretty bare bones, missing nearly everything and the wood was all hacked up by the previous owner. The parts really do seem to be hard to come by for these, I determined it would be too much of a long shot to restore the cab. I'm pretty sure it had foam strips under the glass and a clip at each corner. I still have the monitor shroud and glass, its probably in heavily scratched condition as expected but I hung onto it, it's just plain clear glass, no decals or screenprinting. Sold the clips a while back. May have some random hardware around here still too.

Please let me know what parts you have and are willing to part with. That company out of Canada says they don't ship their glass top. Thanks!

I just noticed you mentioned your WTB ad about the glass, I'm going to message you over there about it for the details.
