Step by Step Pac/Ms.-Man Original Power to Switching Power Supply Kit

What exactly is involved with removing existing original power block, do you need to discharge anything ? While converting it into a newer switching power supply kit as seen in this photo: What exactly do you gain, or lose (besides originality) by doing the conversion in your opinion. Does this particular kit also require you to get a jamma adaptor or can you use one in addition to the kit so you can play JAMMA games ? It claims simply plug and play. Do you need to splice anything etc.. Where do those blue connections plug into inside the existing original cab. Any one have pics utilizing this particular / similar kit ?

You don't need to buy any special kit for this. Just get a switcher and 5 pieces of wire. Connect two of the wires to the 120AC input lugs on the isolation transformer (bottom lugs I believe) and the other ends of those wires to the 120 AC inputs on the switcher. Then attach 1 wire each to +5, +12, and GND on the switcher. Then connect the other ends of those wires directly to the board like this:

Screw the switcher to the bottom of the cab somewhere out of the way, remove the fuses at the bottom that are for power to the PCB, and you're done.

If you have a bad transformer, this is an easy and good way to get your game running again. If you worry you won't be able to pull the board out easily with the wires directly soldered, then put a 3-pin connector in the line somewhere on those 3 wires so you can disconnect them when you want to pull the board.

Make sure you connect the AC to the INPU of the iso, and not the OUTPUT...

ok I bought my kit and about to give my game a new heart, however I'm still confused where to install the blue a/c wires that go from the new switching power supply to..... ? what am I cutting / splicing off the original ?

I have the ground, 12v+, 5+v from the newer switching power supply kit hooked up properly, attached to the original harness / adapter the kit came with I just want to make sure I'm hooking up the A/C to the proper place, and how does the monitor get its power ?>

Tap the AC into the input side of the larger transformer. You can solder them right onto the transformers lugs. This way you dont have to cut any of the original wiring.

the what now ? can you show me a pic I'm more of a visual learner. where exactly Is this ? I don't want to sodder any thing, the kit claims its plug and play. I feel like I'm in that movie spies like us... do I cut this ? nahhh this... nah... ahhh haaa doctor.

OK well I just ended up splicing the wires that were on those lugs on the larger transformer, and now I'm getting power after the conversion kit. I still don't understand why you need to pass through the original transformer / power supply, I thought that the newer switching power supply supersedes that.

Any ways as of now the game is currently playing , but blind. My G07 has no neck glow, but I can coin up / play the game blind and I can hear it. My marquee light is flickering but I think that's likely just a bad fs2 starter (or whatever starter ms. pac's use).

So now on to getting my g07 working again... where do I start with no neck glow ?

so the good / some what good ? :

coin door lights are on but look rather dim, not sure if that's normal on midway cabs
fluorescent light flickers (guessing a bad starter, or fluorescent)
speaker works (I can hear the game play)
PCB is 100% considering it was tested for 8 hrs in another cabinet

Your not going through the transformer, its just tapping into the 120v there. Actually if you wanted to go green you can unhook that transformer to save electric since its not being used now. Your going to want to remove those 4 fuses down there to take the transformer out of the circuit. I would assume the adapter already does this before the edge connector but removing the fuses will ensure it.

I think it's G07 time... looks like a blown fuse.. hard to tell considering it's covered in dust and other 30 year old debris.

Which I think I remember a long time ago I saw a thread talking about giving the chasi of the crt a good cleaning / bath. Any safe way to hose that sucker down / clean it up . I feel like the thread was about a driving game similar to super sprint if my memory serves me correct.

I removed the monitor from the cabinet, that's about it. This pic is of what looks like a blown fuse. I'm sure the next step I'm going to be told is flyback, capkit, this that but i've never installed any of those things... but willing to try... so long as this scene from jurassic park doesn't happen.

It looks like the fuse is blown. That big cap you see in the pic probably has a nice charge in it that will make you urinate just from the sound of it discharging.
Usually when your blowing the fuse you have a bad flyback. Most of the time the HOT will also be bad. Time for a deluxe kit.
