I just fixed up an astron belt machine, and now im trying to rid the screen of static. I checked the coax on from the Laser Disk to the board and it really didnt do much when i pulled it out and cleaned the wires.

Besides the static, things i noticed that need fixing

1) Coin side on the left rarely adds a credit, but it will accept it as a count.
2) The right coin slot doesnt give a credit, but takes the coin and adds it to its counter.

I just took a video that shows a little of the static. After i moved the machine most of the static dissipated ... but as you can see in the video (barely) there is some of static.

Any connection i should clean or double check?

Can you play the disc on another player hooked up to a TV(assuming you have another LD player)? I can't tell from the video exactly what is happening. If the video from the disc is "clear" then that would rule out the LD having any defects. A disc that is warped will produce a herring bone effect in the video that can be distracting. Some of what I see looks like normal old LD artifacts - 'sparkles' in the video, horizontal lines of static/garbage. Hard to tell (for me).

Does the "static" also happen over the non-LD graphics (the player ship)? If that is the case the LD/player probably is not to blame as it is in the over all video signal going to the monitor.

Thanks havok69's :)

And no, seems the static is just the video in the background.

But the front graphics for the most part are very crisp. Maybe its just me because im use to play xbox in 1080p.. lol

Check your DIP switch settings for the coin chutes. They made different DIP switch settings for the LEFT and RIGHT chutes.

As for the static, do you have access to another LD player to test the disc in? It could be laser rot setting in on your disc.

I was hesitant to mention the 'rot' word but that seems likely from what I saw in the video and since the board generated graphics don't have the static issue (only the background images).

After you moved the game, there was a reduction in static (per your post); then I'd go looking at every connection and cable between the LD player and the monitor. Replace the cable if you haven't already.

Hopefully you can solve it that way- otherwise it could be the dreaded rot as already mentioned.

i would try cleaning the disc - cleaning the player optic- make sure that the connection is solid on the back of the bnc connector on the overlay card. sometimes the little wire that connects it to the back will break off or the connection will become weak from twisting it on and off . looks like this happens on your game when explosions occure or loud parts of the game causing vibration.
