OK... I have a Turbo Outrun that has a ground line running from the monitor frame to the metal backplate on the door which has the PCB on it (which, in turn also has a ground wire running from it to other things, etc.).

Anyway, while the ground wire it attached from the frame to the backplate, I get static on screen... nothing huge but it's noticeable to the point I thought he monitor needed to be re-capped. Once I remove the ground wire from the frame to the back plate, it clears right up and looks awesome.

SO...

To what detriment would it be to simply leave the wire disconnected?

What options do I have?

Thanks!

Is a switching power supply installed in the game?

I had interference or static on my 1942 such as you describe. Turned out that my three prong outlet was not earth grounded.(old, old house) Plugged the game into a kitchen outlet that was properly earth grounded and the interference cleared up.

Also removing the ground wire from the monitor frame cleared it up. Another fix I found online, if it is a switching power supply. Is to run a jumper wire from the FG terminal on the power supply to the logic ground terminal on the power supply.

My Donkey Kong, DK Junior, Frogger, Galaxian and Ms. Pac-man with original power supplies and transformers do not get this static or interference. Only my games with switching power supplies.
