Starting to take a liking to cabaret cabinets after seeing them at CAX....

So after going to CAX for the first time, I was exposed to hundreds of games that I had only read about or saw pictures of. Including a slew of cabarets. I have heard a lot of talk about things like "Cabarets are ugly, theyre a waste of wood and boards" etc etc. But after seeing all the different cabarets and how simple, clean and "cute" they are, I have actually really taken a liking to them. I think my favorite was the Asteroids Deluxe that was next to the giant music video screen. I played that thing for a good 20 mins and got my name on the board a few times too. I thought that the tiny vector screen was beyond fascinating.

Does anybody else have a soft spot for cabarets? Got a few to show?

I had a similar experience when I went to the Seattle show this year... I got to play classics I would never have considered owning. And now I want them.

If an arcade show can do one thing, it is make want lists bigger

Hey Drewster, I saw you at CAX and wanted to say hi and introduce myself but I was in the middle of a conversation with acejedi and didn't see you after that. :( Oh well. I actually didn't see/talk to nearly as many klov'ers as last year, although I wasn't there today.

Who? Drewster or me? I was inside from noon til about 2:45, 4 til 6, and 9:30 til 12:30. I talked to probably about 1/2 dozen klov'ers. Wish I ran across more though.

I was only there Saturday evening/night. Where were you at? Were you one of the ones killing that Defender with the 500,000+ score?

Drew, I got your text, then never heard from you again. Never saw you walking around either. Todd might still have an Asteroids Deluxe cabaret, not sure. Maybe a Battle Zone too.

I did not see you either!! But I was talking about the Drewster! Always nice to put faces with names...:)

Indeed! The only KLOVer I knowingly met was Dylan (tron_guy) and I was actually shocked he recognized me! Startled me for a second! Hahaha. :)

And Paul, I got your text saying you were by the Robotron but I went and you werent there. I tried like hell to find you. Then a half hour later I found out there were 2 Robotrons in different places, haha. I didnt text you back on the reason that I figured I would bump into you sooner or later. As for the Asteroids Deluxe, once again I have no room with my most recent addition of Punch Out!!. I will need to sell off my DK CT and Firepower before I bring home any new additions.

Well at CAX 2011, I will have a more dependable truck, and I will haul my Paperboy and Pole Position, seeing as how I didnt see either game there, and I will stay there for the whole weekend. Counting down the days!

Love the cabarets. Had my Centipede and Missle Command cabaret at the show. Was going to bring the Asteroids Deluxe, but did not have time to get it ready. Loved the Gorf cabaret and wish I would have bought the one Dave (Arcade-Revival) offered me years ago.

I brought the Gyruss down this year (the one I got from Dylan in a trade, great guy BTW, but sucks at Tron lol). Next year I want to bring a bunch of games. I think I had more fun seeing so many playing my Gyruss than I did playing games myself.

Most of the fun at CAX is meeting fellow collectors. I met quite a few great people down there. Many others to meet next time. It was strange, there were probably 40 of us in the photo, and I think I actually only met like 10 of them. Maybe next year I will meet the rest.

Ahhh, was that your Gyruss? I played that a few times. Gyruss is definitely better on a dedicated cab rather than a multicade. I would have played it more, but I had hundreds of other games to try :) I want to bring a bunch of games too. I have actually been contemplating getting a trailer and hauling the entire Drewcade down there, but I havent decided if thats a good idea yet, lol.

Ive got 4 cabarets right now and love them. Ive started stripping the sides off of them to redo the woodgrain but that stuff is a bitch to get off. Ive tried just about everything to get that stuff off but the only thing that works is lots of time and work.
