Alright, we moved this old carcass to my dad's place for a rebuild. Here are a bunch of random pics documenting the process. The rough-cuts are done and next time we'll break out the router and start the dados and rabbets.
I forgot my regular camera so had to use my DroidX camera.

First time he's messed with an arcade cabinet. We're open for suggestions.

Front and bottom panel shots. Anybody know why those dado cuts are there by the coin box? It seems pointless and he wasn't sure why they did it.

Carcass and roof shots. He says it's a 15 degree angle.

I get some hands-on. I'm doing the power supply mounting plate. I'm pretty sure there was cat pee on the old one :D.

We're finished for the day. Labeling parts and more carcass shots. Next time we'll break out the router.

Why are you rebuilding that cabinet? A little Bondo would have fixed that right up! ;)

Cool project, I'm looking forward to your updates. My next project cab is the first one I'll have to rebuild from scratch, so I'll be taking notes. And I agree, that is a nice woodworking setup.

Nice shop with the overhead dust collection on the table saw..

Good luck. Are you planning on doing the cabinet with the dados, as Williams (Churchill Cabinets) did it or just butt joints?

Dados, for sure. I mentioned that to him and he already knew what they were by looking at the original cabinet. I know jack about wood working so I'm lucky that he knows a lot. He knew what rabbet was, too. We're starting on those next to since the rough cuts are done.

That takes planning for sure, but building it that way + glue will make it solid..

Couple of examples of the dados drawn in. Will route 'em out soon.

Here's a small update. I got all the headers replaced on all the boards, cap kits, got a replacement for the main board tray, cleaned up the other one and sprayed a clearcoat so I hope I don't ever see rust on the plates again.

That power supply looks a lot better and I had a new mount for it made. Next I'm gonna clean the parts up, paint and mount it. Then replace all the connectors everywhere. Wish me luck. I should be able to fire it up after that.

I need to update this thread and ask for some advice. Even though the cabinet build was put on hold for a bit (thankully), I still plan on finishing it. The funny part is my uncle ended up giving me a cab last week that turns out to be a Stargate! It's in great shape, cept it's painted black and was converted to a WWF Superstars jammatized.

So I'm going to convert it back into a Stargate. Now what I need advice on is what to turn this cab into once we finish it. I like the WWF Superstars game, but don't want a machine dedicated to it unless it was the original cab. What would you guys do with this scratch-build cab if it was yours? Maybe MultiWilliam-ize it?

I like the idea of Jammatizing it since I now have a switcher PSU and jamma harness. And maybe buying a bunch of dedicated boards and swapping them out when I feel like playing whichever game (like WWF) if that's feasible. Or should I just get one of those multiboards? I guess it might depend on what control panel config I want.

I feel like I have a lot of options here. I think it's strange and cool that I was given a Stargate cab. I'm in the process of stripping it if you want to check out my other thread.
