I just picked up a Stargate ROM board that has no eproms. There's a sticker saying the board uses only Type A (2532) chips. Am I correct in thinking that if I change jumpers W2 and W4 to W1 and W3 that I can then use 2732's? And what order do the chips go in? The ROM board image at arcade solutions is different from the one at robotron-2084.co.uk, and neither one is the same as the manual!

The ROM Chips for Stargate are the same order as Joust. So this is correct:

I'llhave to look, but I don't belive it is that simple to switch the ROM board from type A (2532) to type B (2732) ROMS. That change can be done on Robotron and later ROM boards. These are identified by the two large chips that are missing from the ROM board pictured above.

Thanks for checking Ken. If it is more than just the jumpers, would the pcb have a different part number? Mine has the same number as the one in the picture you posted, and has the jumpers next to rom 8 and rom 9 too. I'm hoping the type B boards have the same part number but have jumpers next to rom 10 and rom 11. BTW, like the new avatar. ;)

Does anyone have a Stargate ROM board that takes type B ROMs? Can you post a picture of it like the one above, or check the part number of the board and the jumper positions?

Here is the Robotron board that Ken is talking about.

Mine has "A" roms, but....

If your board contained 2732s, W1 and W3 will be connected.
If it used 2532s, W2 and W4 will be connected.

EDIT: Realized the forum resized the pics to a useless size.....they're snapshots from the ROM board schematic NOTES and the ROM board layout pages.

Thanks for the pic Dokert. The ROM board I have is definitely a Stargate, it doesn't have the 2 large chips on the bottom like the board in your picture. My issue is I have to burn a set of ROMs for my board, and I have a few 2732's (probably not 12 of 'em), and I can get 2732's for half the price of 2532's. Plus I can use 2732's as a replacement for the decoder chips with a bit of work (I've done it with a 2716, but most of the ones I have are probably too slow). So I'd prefer to do this with 2732's if possible. If it can't be done, I'll knuckle under and order up a pile of 2532's, but those jumpers look like they're just begging to be swapped, and we know there is a setup for Stargate using 2732's. AFAIK (and I could very well be wrong), all Stargate ROM boards have the same board number - 5771-09657-00. If that's the case, setting the board up for the other ROM type shouldn't be too tough.

That's it Kevin, you nailed it! I looked through the manual, but never caught that note. Thanks very much!

Check with Shilmover, I know for a fact that he has a Stargate ROM board with B version ROMs on it. Saltbreez may have one too.

I wrote myself a note to dig around when I get home, I am pretty sure I have one of each Stargate board. Hopefully, I can find them both and post pics.

With the price of 2532's, and with what the gold TI 2532's are selling for, Thinking about making all my stargate Rom boards 2732's. Got a billion of them. Plus, I need 2532's for PacMan.
