Hi,

I have a Stargate with a sticker on the rom board that reads something like "this board takes rev A roms only". The stickers on the roms themselves originally were type B, but someone has crossed out the B's and changed them to A's. It looks like the rom board was replaced at some point.

The game works great, but I'm wondering if someone can explain the difference between Rev A and B roms? Is the game play any different between A and B?

Thanks
Charlie

It is not a software revision. Type A ROMs were 2532s and type B roms were 2732s. There are jumpers on the later ROM boards to change the addressing from type A to type B.

Williams originally designed the second set of ROM boards to accept both ROM types because there were chronic shortages of ROMs in the early days and by being able to shift a couple of jumpers they could use whatever they could get.

As far as I know A or B is used for the type of eprom used.

A = 2532
B = 2732

The rom board can be jumpered for either type
(...but you can not mix-and-match on the same board )

From what I've seen "B" are more common
(...they were cheaper and easier to program ...)

I've seen A and B eproms for Joust, but only B eproms for Robotron.
I've never seen A eproms for Stargate, but obviously they exist... ;-)

Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Steph
