I did it all with a sprayer except for the metal parts which I used black/gloss spray cans for. I started out planning to use all latex. The first color I did was the black on the front/top/back which I did in Ben Moore Semi-Gloss Latex. This came out great. Then I picked up these colors at Lowes which I found from various posts...
Base Coat Red = 857-3 (Scarlet Fire)
Yellow = 200A-6 (Susan)
Stay away from these. Maybe the guy at Lowes messed them up, but the red was WAY off. It was almost purple.
I then picked up Ben Moore Gloss Latex Carnival Red Impervex It came out "ok", but not perfect. It had a bit of a texture to it. Maybe I messed up being new to spraying... After a lot of thought, I decided to cut my losses and strip it off and go oil. I'm very glad I did.
The red oil I used was Ben Moore Gloss Red Impervo. It took longer, but I did it with the cab horizontal so gravity was on my side. I think this helped prevent drips, but it made the process a lot more time consuming. I also added Pentrol to the paint.
I did the same horizontal method for the Black and Yellow. Black was Rustoleum Gloss Black Oil and Yellow was Ben Moore Oil Sun Yellow.
