A few weeks back I picked up an extremely low miles Stargate. The insides look like they have never seen the light of day, all matching serial numbers on the boards and monitor. All original keys and no signs of repair work done to any of the boards.

It's got a problem though that I don't think is supposed to be there. When you get past the first few levels and there is a lot of stuff happening on the screen it starts to lag, the more going on the worse the framerates are. I do not remember any lag ever occuring back in the day in the arcade so I am assuming there is a problem here. I spent a lot of time Google searching but all I can find is info on lagging MAME games.

I am fairly inexperienced at vids but have 20 years experience repairing countless pinballs including doing all my own board work. If someone gave me some pointers here I should be able to handle any necessary repair fairly easily. I am just not sure where to begin with it.

That's absolutely normal, you get a lot of stuff happening on screen it will slow down and lag without question. It's only one 6809 CPU with a lot to do ;)

Congratulations on getting past the first few levels. Having the display bog down when it gets hairy is perfectly normal. Take advantage of it and create carnage. Your ship on screen has the highest priority so the enemies will slow done more than you do.
