I bought a Sg overlay from As.com It was rolled up quite a bit. I have since let the heat from the sun lay it out flat by putting it on top of a ms pac in my home. It gets pretty darn hot during the day.

Anyway would it be best to place the overlay over the stargate cp and let it conform to the control panel before applying?

Should I use the stock 3M backing/adhesive to let it adhere to the Cp or should I go with some sort of glue spray?

Thanks for your time!

What I normally do is to lay it flat on a table out of the sun with some flat weights on it for a couple of days. Our breakfast table with a glass bezel on top is just about perfect (if I can get away with it :D).

The 3M adhesive is more than sufficient to hold the CPO down, You just need to go slow and steady. I usually peel about 1" back from the top edge and lay the CPO onto the control panel (don't let the part you peeled back touch yet) and use a couple of the switches in the holes to line everything up. Once I have the holes lined up I will let the peeled part down onto the control panel and press it into place. I'll then pull the switches back out and carefully pull the release paper off the back of the CPO about an inch at a time and stick it down. Once it is stuck down, I'll peel and stick the next inch. Repeat.

Take special care going around the bends to make sure you don't have any bubbles and that the CPO is stuck down well.

As I go past the switch homes, I will frequently slide the switches in to help hold the CPO so it doesn't slip. This is probably not necessary because by this time you are past the point of no return.

Slow and steady goes it right.

The only thing I can add to what was just said, is to paint your CP wood a solid color. I think black would be the preferred color to get the colors closer to original. But white will make the yellow pop. The CPO is a bit translucent. So make sure you paint the wood a solid color, otherwise any wood defects will show through the yellow.

Just some food for thought. I have not yet applied a cpo to my machine, but I found a cheap picture frame at wal-mart that had plexi that was just a c-hair thicker than the original overlay.
